Starring Trisha VanReardon
Featuring Kenzi Grey!
CTN Studios
May 2017
The scene opened as Trisha VanReardon walked out on stage. The Hawaii beauty was dressed impeccably, as always and sporting a bright smile. She paused as she acknowledged the fans, bowing to each section in turns. “Thank you! Thank you all for being here for the return of ‘The Hot Seat!’ It has been a long time since we have had an episode, and tonight is going to be a very special one!”
Trisha walked to the chair and placed her hands on the back of the infamous seat. “The rules are the same…one guest and five questions.”
She walked back to the center of the stage. “My guest tonight is unquestionably one of the most controversial and divisive women ever to grace the halls of Ladies All-Star Wrestling. She is a former Chaos Champion and winner of 3 LAW End of Year Awards for 2016. On Sunday, May 28th she will travel to San Antonio to challenge the undefeated Boardwalk Angels for the LAW Tag Team Titles…maybe…”
She grinned as she slipped in that last jab. “Ladies and gentlemen, television, film, and singing star…Kenzi Grey…”

Kenzi Grey walked out, waving to the fans as Trisha walked over and gave her a rather chilly hug. The two women shared a few whispers and then Trisha directed Kenzi to her seat in the ominous black chair. Kenzi made herself comfortable, having been a guest on the show on more than on one occasion.
“WOW! Back on ‘The Hot Seat!’ I thought this show was deader than Crystal Millar’s acting career! I guess it’s the old dogs that hang around the longest until you can finally put them out of your misery huh?” Kenzi laughed at her own joke, “I’m just kidding…I’m happy to be here Trisha…happy to be doing what I can to make this show relevant again.”

Trisha smirked at Kenzi’s little jab. It was well known that Trisha much preferred Kenzi’s mother, Sidney Grey, and she blamed Kenzi for her mother’s career ending injury. Of course, another woman had taken the fall for it and Sidney had backed up the confession, but Trisha knew that Kenzi bore some responsibility for it…whether she ever admitted or not.
Trisha straightened herself as she considered the girl carefully. “I obviously don’t need to explain this to you…you know the drill. I ask you five questions and you give us all the answers…right from the heart. No lies or half-truths.”
She looked at Kenzi and the girl gave a nonchalant shrug to indicate that she was more than ready. Trisha sat forward as she watched her quarry carefully. “How embarrassing was it for you when Lucas Dupree summoned you to his office and made a complete fool out of you in front of the world when he assigned you…a grown woman…to have a babysitter? I mean…not only a babysitter, but to be babysat by a woman that hates your guts and probably wants to see you fired from LAW…once and for all?”

Kenzi lowered her head and nodded a bit as she let the question sink in...along with the obviously slanted opinion of the show's host towards her. “What do you want me to say? I'm happy about having a mentor...let alone that mentor being Mackenzie Roberts?” She could only shake her head in disgust, “I don't know what Mr. Dupree's end game is here, but if I were to take a guess, he just wants to either force me to quit LAW or get Mack to force me out!”
Kenzi smirked, “As embarrassing as it is to have your hand held by LAW's 'supposed' Gold Standard...it will be 100% more embarrassing when I completely eclipse Mackenzie...the so-called 2016 Wrestler of the Year by making 2017 MY YEAR as she stands behind me...looking stupid!”
Kenzi rubbed her hands together, gleefully. “The best part about that? Lucas will have to just sit back and watch me shine brighter than I ever have before as it slowly dawns on him that I never needed a mentor...’” Kenzi chuckled, “...he just needed to see my greatness next to one of his favorite's mediocrity!”

Trisha perked up a bit, her interest peaked; “So…you aren’t concerned about possibly being fired then? I mean…Ms. Roberts holds your career in the palm of her hand. She could give the word and you’d be gone if she wanted…” she snapped her fingers, “POOF! Just like that!”
Trisha laughed a bit, “It can’t be a good idea for you to tempt fate like that Ms. Grey. Even you have to be able to see that!”
Kenzi took a moment to gather her thoughts before answering the question. “Yeah…Mack could run to Lucas and cry about me doing this or doing that, but she won’t lie…she won’t do anything but poke and prod me to get me to legit punch her in the face so she can have a REAL reason to run to the boss.”
Kenzi could only smile. “Regardless of what I think about her…I’ll give her respect for that…at least. She wants to walk away from this thing with clean hands…just like Lucas wants me gone so he can have a clear conscious...” She looked into the camera, narrowing her eyes, “…I haven’t done anything wrong…so all of this talk about investigations and firings needs to stop!”

Trisha pointed at her, “You know…that would hold more weight if it wasn’t for the fact that talk about you being under investigation and possibly being fired had not come from LAW executives talking publically to ‘individuals’ who have demanded that you be terminated, so that former members of the roster can return and work in peace.” Trisha smiled at this, knowing how much it irritated Kenzi.
Trisha consulted her notes, “Last month…on April 22nd, LAW tweeted…and I quote; ‘There are still pending investigations that our legal team is looking into.’”
Trisha laced her fingers and eyed Kenzi carefully, “I suppose the question is…once those investigations are concluded…and you’re found guilty, all of that grandstanding about Roberts and Dupree needing to have ‘clean hands’ won’t really matter, will it? You’ll be fired and your dreams of being a champion again in LAW will be over.”
Kenzi took a deep breath to keep herself from leaping out of the chair and wrapping her hands around Trisha’s neck. She didn’t know if choking out a CTN employee could be used as grounds to fire her in LAW, so she decided to keep her anger in check, as best she could. “Here is what I know about these ‘investigations’ that LAW so callously tweeted out to a third party without speaking to me, my manager, or my legal advisor…JACK and SHIT! That is what I know about those investigations!”
Kenzi kneaded her hands to keep them from violently punching the air in frustration. “I don’t care what you say, I don’t care what Katie Daniels says, and I don’t care what the nameless and faceless legal team of LAW says…I have done everything that LAW has ever asked me to do! I might not have done it the way that everyone liked, but I did it! I risked my health and safety for this company and I have done it at a detriment to my other career outside the ring…I did it because I love LAW…not the shit head executives in the back who don’t think my contributions matter, but for the people we entertain with our blood, sweat, and tears!”
Kenzi lowered her head, obviously upset by the disrespect shown to her, despite her contributions. “All of this is just smoke and mirrors to distract me from what I set out to do. I set out to win the Tag Team Titles…yet, how suspicious is it that all of this talk about investigations and firings comes from the same camp as the one the Boardwalk Angels are representing…” she paused, “…you let that soak in for a moment…then get back to me on who really wants me out of the picture.”

Trisha sat forward as she watched her quarry carefully. “Obviously you think Farrah and Zoey are behind this…to distract you.” She nods, moving on to the championship match. “This Tag Team Championship match at Validation has been building for the better part of 5 months. As a matter of fact, you and Kate Steele had been earmarked as the odds on favorites to dethrone The Naughty Girls…until the arrival of the Boardwalk Angels.”
Trisha paused as she gauged Kenzi’s response to the mention of her arch rivals. “The Boardwalk Angels came to LAW with a single mission…to make you pay for what you did to Jamilyn Cornett…which I assume is the ‘camp’ you’re referring to. Of course, along the way they won the prize that you had your eyes set on, triggering this show down at Validation…but my question is this; how do you overcome the fact that Farrah Martell and Zoey Star have taken you off your game…be it by dredging up your past or by their associates distracting you with talk of firing and investigations? Either way, they are now in prime position to put the final nail in your coffin. They ran circles around you and Kate at LAW 62...how is Validation going to be any different?”
Kenzi drummed her manicured nails on the arms of the black chair, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. “Is that what you think Trisha? Is that what everyone thinks?” She shrugged, “Hey, maybe at first I was more than a little bit thrown by Farrah and Zoey running up in LAW and flapping their gums about stuff that they knew nothing about. Did that bother me? Yeah…of course it did! I closed the door on that chapter of my life a long time ago and I had my eyes set on a goal…a golden goal.”
Kenzi could only sigh as she shrugged, “I was thrown for a loop after that first match. I played into their little head game of defending myself against a crime that I had never committed…and soon things weren’t about the titles, they were about 2016. That is my fault…letting them turn my quest into a ridiculous farce concerning a despicable time in LAW…a time that neither of them were even here for!”
Kenzi leaned back, arching her brow. “Validation is not about the ghost of Jamilyn Cornett. I appreciate that Zoey came to me at LAW 62 to tell me that our match was going to be about the titles…’so I can reap what I sew.’” Kenzi chuckled, “Even then…they are still running that same old game…living in the past in the hopes that I’ll fight with my heart instead of my head.”
Kenzi sat forward, with a smile on her face this time. “What makes you think that I haven’t been using my head the entire time?” She laces her fingers, “I guess we’ll find out which it is in San Antonio…won’t we? There are NO amount of fake investigations or trumped up lies that will mean a damn thing once that bell rings!”

Trisha discarded her notes as she got to the last question. It was a very simple one…sure to leave Kenzi dumbfounded. “How do you intend to win that tag team title match when you don’t even have a tag team partner?”
Trisha smiled as she saw the look on Kenzi’s face. Kate had been missing in action since LAW 62. It didn’t matter how fired up Kenzi was for this title match, without Kate Steele, Kenzi wasn’t going to do a damn thing. It pleased Trisha to slap her in the face with the harsh hand of reality.
No matter what kind of bravado Kenzi attempted to muster, the words of Trisha rang painfully true. She could not hope to beat the likes of Farrah Martell and Zoey Star on her own. She and Kate had not acted like a team at LAW 62 and it had cost them in a three-on-three match. Kenzi took a bullet for Sarah Lacklan and the team paid the price for that lack of unity. All the righteous indignation in the world wouldn’t make up for that or the fact that Kate was all but missing from the equation now.
Kenzi stood up, looking at Trisha, her eyes fierce and determined. “…I am going to win that match…” Kenzi tore the lapel mic off and tossed it into Trisha’s lap as she walked off, ending the interview.
Trisha sat there, watching her leave…a satisfied smirk on her face as the show abruptly ended. Her work here was done…
