Nighttime at the Madigan-Star estate where Katalina is sit up in bed with some pillows propped behind her back as she looks over her laptop with one hand rested underneath her chin. At the moment Zoey is in the bathroom getting her own self ready for the night via brushing her teeth. Therefore, it’s acceptable that the door be open allowing for Kat to use a normal tone as she calls out to her wife.
Katalina: This is troubling.
There’s a quick spitting noise from the bathroom followed up by the faucet being turned on.
Zoey: What is?
Katalina: I’m just going over my roster of live-ins and...it feels like I’m just taking advantage of these girls.
The sound of water running commences, along with a few light taps. The light is clicked off and Zoey walks into the bedroom with her eyes turning to Kat. Short, purple shorts hug her waist but remain loose elsewhere, a matching top leaving a few inches of bare skin between it and her lower garments. As she approaches the bed she is wrapping her dark hair up in a messy bun, moving onto it next to Kat, carefully so as not to disrupt her work.
Zoey: What makes you say such a thing? Has there been dissension or unhappiness among them?
Not one to mind any disruption from her wife, however, Kat brings out an arm around Zoey’s shoulders pulling her in for a little cuddle letting her see what’s on the computer as well. It was Kat’s file of those openly owned by her with names like Candi, Katie, and Chastity to name a few. At the bottom was the recently added Jessika.
Katalina: Just from Katie toward...well, everyone. But aside from her dealings with Jessika there isn’t anything I’ve needed to step in for. The girls are, for a better part of it, getting along. But it’s just who these girls are that has me troubled. I had to literally beat loyalty into Katie and ever since I’ve dangled Chastity in front of her to keep control of her lust. Candi I doubt still understands what she’s here for despite my explaining it to her. Moonflow objectifies herself still and makes no effort of changing that course.
Moonflow being Kat’s prize winning white haired filly. A rescue effort from a more hardcore and controlling dominatrix. However, the damage has been irreversible leaving Moonflow to believe herself to be nothing more than a tool.
Katalina: Jessika, while I still believe what I’m doing is helping her, I can certainly understand how some would say I’m just taking advantage over her willingness to serve. On top of that there was Holly who was beaten into the life of a maid and Pet...I could write a novel about her reasons for coming to me.
Kat finishes all of this off with a sigh.
Katalina: I try and run my empire as a free expression place where those who come to me can be what they feel they are, but...lately it feels like those I’m keeping close are just those I can take advantage of.
Nuzzled in close to her wife, Zoey listens quietly to her concerns. She takes in what’s on the laptop screen in the process and takes a minute to consider as Kat finishes her explanation.
Zoey: Well, Jessika is as peaceful as I’ve ever seen her. Pet is… Pet. I do not think she is capable of being changed, only controlled in small amounts. Moonflow I honestly do not know that well though she at least seems peaceful. We both know Holly’s history. Candi is a special case. Katie… is strange in the same way Pet is strange, and Chastity goes right along with that.
Pondering further, Zoey sits up. She doesn’t move to escape from Katalina’s embrace but as an effort to center a little and better collect her thoughts. No, Katalina wasn’t asking for help in this, but Zoey was still looking for answers. It was good to have something else to focus on other than her own personal problems which plagued her of late.
Zoey: In most of these cases, the women strike me as happy. Candi has never expressed discontent with her place alongside you. Jessika as we noted is very much content with her own place. Moonflow, for all your concern, has a place to belong. That’s more than some people ever find. Holly as well seems quite content with life. Katie feels threatened but the only way that is going to change is through reassurances on your part. She’s your primary, yes, but based on what you’ve taught me there is always the possibility of adding another. It seems like a matter of ego where she’s concerned…
Realizing she’d gone off on a spiel, Zoey blushed slightly and fell silent. More and more lately she was like the innocent and somewhat-naive young woman Kat had met almost two years ago. Brushing a stray lock of hair from her face, she turns to her wife.
Zoey: Sorry, love. I know you didn’t ask for a dissertation there.
She smiles faintly.
Zoey: My point is that in a majority of these cases, you have done right by these women currently or once under your full care. At least that has been my observation.
Hearing all of that brings a smile of reassurance over Kat’s face as she looks to her laptop before setting it to power down after closing up the programs. One of which looked to be an address for something. But as it closes without incident, it’s clear Kat has the file saved. Once the screen goes black she closes up her laptop and places it down to the floor sliding it underneath the bed before coming back up to snuggle in with her wife.
Katalina: Thank you. I suppose with all the business concerning Jessika, it’s sort of caused me to look over the others a little more and think wrongly on my association with them. As for your own concerns,
Kat rolls over slightly toward her own end table opening it up and drawing out a leather studded collar with the platinum Z along the front end of it. She wraps it snuggly around her neck pulling her hair loose then locks the device in place before returning to the snuggle.
Katalina: You have an obligation to keep your own pet happy.
She smiles drawing a finger slowly down over Zoey’s left breast before the expression fades.
Katalina: Just as I have the duty to make certain you remain happy.
Her tone suggests knowing something. She doesn’t ask, but she certainly leaves the door open in case Zoey wishes to go through it. The sight of the collar always makes Zoey smile and she reaches out to touch the shining Z-shaped medallion even as Kat’s touch makes her shiver pleasantly. On the veiled subject of her own concerns, Zoey nods and scoots back against the pillows. She draws Kat into her lap, stroking her hair slowly.
Zoey: Where that subject is concerned, it’s a matter of my own making… the sort of issue that follows you no matter how fast you run from it. Recent events and… interactions…
Zoey pauses, drawing in a measured breath and holding it a bit before letting go. It took effort to not fall back into the angry mire of negativity when such people were spoken of even peripherally.
Zoey: ...have let it catch up. Which has led to me falling back into old habits of which you have made your disapproval clear.
Her grip on Katalina tightens noticeably, not out of dark emotion but a need to hold on to someone, something, that is good.
Zoey: Where do you want me to start?
First looking at the clock, Kat opens up her mouth wide for a fake yawn snuggling herself in deeper against the missus.
Katalina: Start with the end and we’ll see how far we get from there.
Luckily Zoey was versed well enough with Kat so that the domina didn’t need to show her the smile to indicate it was meant as a joke. Though, as Kat’s hand rests along Zoey’s thigh, her tone becomes equally gentle once more.
Katalina: Start with the beginning. I promise I will do my best not to get upset. I know that’s never truly helped in the past.
There’s a little hint of snarkiness in Kat’s tone, given that any discussion over said old habits have given limited results, but it’s overshadowed by the woman’s concern for her wife’s wellbeing.
Zoey: Back in middle school, I lost a lot of friends because of my focus on school and my future. That continued in high school and became more pronounced. Became one of those reclusive nerdy types that put more time into serious stuff than I did fun. You know the type, I’m sure.
Continuing to comb her fingers through Kat’s hair, Zoey tries to keep her tale concise. Her other hand idly plays with the ‘Z’ dangling from her wife’s collar.
Zoey: Farrah and Courtney were my only lasting friends from that time. School for eight hours every day, work for three or four, homework and extracurriculars for another three to four… bed around midnight, waking up at four or five to get a head start on the day. And so on. Sometimes it took a congressional intervention to get me to slow down for things like dinner with the family or the odd day hanging out with my parents and Drake…
Of course his name would come up. And as much progress as she had made toward keeping her emotions in check where her brother was concerned, Zoey had to move her hand to wipe a tear away at this mention.
Zoey: A professional level of devotion to my future, yes, but not all that healthy. More than once those interventions were absolutely necessary. And after Drake passed, I actually got worse for a while. What can I say? The constant efforts distracted me from a lot of things I didn’t want to deal with. I’ve carried those habits over into the here and now. What makes it worse at this point is that… I actually have friends now. Jami, Stacy, Jen, Kelsey, Tyler, Mariano… and of course Farrah and Courtney, too.
Hard to call having friends a bad thing, but Zoey quickly qualified her statement.
Zoey: Underneath it all, having so many friends just stop being friends hurt me. Having them now… I go out of my way to see to their happiness and well-being because I can’t bear the thought of losing anyone again. And that’s more time spent doing things other than taking care of myself. Worse, it takes me away from you and Makayla far more than I would like. And now this professional situation with Guilty Pleasure…
Uncharacteristic edge enters Zoey’s voice, hard and cold as steel.
Zoey: ...and I simply do not possess the energy to handle those two without giving in to anger and pain I’ve tried for more than half my life to restrain.
Thankfully, in her effort to maintain her composure, she pauses in her long-winded explanation. Kat waits a moment though to make certain she wouldn’t be interrupting. When the pause gives her the sense she’s in the clear, she nods to herself and firms up her grip over her lover’s thigh.
Katalina: I can’t...say that I’m too thrilled hearing you revert back to how you were before the summer,
She begins but quickly remembers what she said and gives herself a moment to recollect her thoughts. Or at least a better means of presenting them.
Katalina: All I can say is, friends come and they go. It’s a harsh reality, but even you know it’s the truth. Obviously.
Kat doesn’t mean for her remark to sting, but it’s out there now so she just moves on.
Katalina: Just remember that these people came to you because of who you are, not just because of what you can offer them.
There’s a slight trailing in Kat’s voice as though hurt by her own comment there. As a dominatrix, one who puts pleasure into the work they offer one, the question does tend to become a concern. Are her friends her friends because of who she is? Or because they happen to be feeling lustful enough to talk with her?
Katalina: I know you feel the inner desire to just be there for everyone, but nobody grows stronger when others do the work for them. Perhaps you just need to find the means in which to cheer them on, let them know you’re still with them. If they expected more from you, then I think it’s time to re-evaluate the friendship you hold with them. At least, that’s my belief. I think it also stretches into your situation with Guilty Pleasure,
Kat’s tone still hasn’t gotten any better. While doing her best to field Zoey’s concerns, her own just keep mounting in the subject.
Katalina: You’re wanting to help Jami and Farrah and because of that, you got pulled into something you weren’t involved in beyond investing in your friends’ feelings. It’s a drain, I know, and you’re struggling for your out. After this match, win or lose, my advice is to just leave it be. Beating them isn’t going to reverse anything Kenzi may have done to Jami or Farrah, and you’re only going to stress harder trying to figure out a way.
May have done? Right, Kat has been trying to play it neutral in this whole situation and has, in doing so, found some kind of...bonding connection with Kenzi. Friendship would perhaps be too much and familiarity is too little. Katalina can tell that some of her comments do trigger Zoey to an extent, but not so far that they have her reacting harshly. She waits until Katalina is finished, never once ceasing to sweep her fingers through that silky brown hair before finally sighing in a somewhat-defeated way.
Zoey: Dr. Shields has told me much of the same thing in his own fashion. It’s a little discomfiting coming from two sides at once.
Inwardly, despite her tense tone, Zoey was becoming more and more thankful that Emma had ‘coerced’ her into seeing Joanna’s psychologist.
Zoey: But you’re both right. I can’t deny that.
Sinking further into the pillows, Zoey brings Kat not so much upon her but closer to her, nestled into her side. Both her arms wrap around her wife, her lips resting close to the domina’s brow. There’s silence for a couple minutes before Zoey murmurs out a further reply.
Zoey: Do you really feel like people only associate with you because of what you can offer them?
Kat waits a moment before replying. Just long enough to find any form of evidence to the contrary of her beliefs. When she finds her end results she snuggles herself in tighter against Zoey as though balling herself up from the world outside their shared bed.
Katalina: ...yes.
Zoey: Do you think that’s the reason why we became a couple?
The question wasn’t put forth in an accusing fashion; it was a genuine query as Zoey sought to help her wife find some peace of mind.
Katalina: I...
She begins as her tone only falls more silent.
Katalina: Please don’t make me say, Mistress.
Zoey: As you wish, pet.
The answer, put simply, wasn’t what Zoey expected. She found herself staring at the ceiling in silence, trying to collect her thoughts in an orderly fashion. There were a lot of things she wanted to say in that moment, but… none of them felt appropriate. Kat felt equally as troubled by her response but she couldn’t find a means around it. At the moment, the way her mind was working, any other response than the one that popped into her head was just a lie. Over time, however, Kat would try and see them as the truth.
Katalina: Good night, Mistress.
Zoey: Good night.
Fade to black.
Katalina: This is troubling.
There’s a quick spitting noise from the bathroom followed up by the faucet being turned on.
