Ok so to bring everyone up to speed, earlier today Kenzi's handler posted an RP up. It was moments before I had to go to work and I had no way to reply to it or anything. I also live in a time zone that is two hours behind, so I was even further screwed.
I'm not going to apologize for the call out. I am a firm believer that if multiple RP's are allowed, give your opponent a chance to reply at the very minimum, a day before the final deadline. That's always been the way I've worked with EXTREMELY few exceptions when I was starting out and one day when I was intentionally being a rude fuck to someone. In my view, it's Sandbagging to call it that close without your opponent having said anything more.
Now my reaction in public on the other hand? Not so excusable.
Here's the thing that changed my mind today. A coworker of mine fell and had a heart attack at work. I sat with him, talked with him to try and keep him in this world. Very dramatic and heavy stuff. The paramedics arrive and help him onto a stretcher and the old man, named Joseph, looks at me and say, "Don't sweat the small stuff and choose your battles, or you'll wind up with a weak heart like mine."
I don't know if he's alive or not, but it got me rethinking this whole situation and how ridiculous it was for me to be angry about this. Life is way too damn short, even if you live to be in your 90's. Technically, losing was a favorable outcome for me as I wouldn't be in the tourney for the long haul. I think my issue was that I wanted to lose fairly and not have it look so obvious, you know? Keep a shred of legitimacy to the product.
It's kind of strange when you take a moment and sit back, realizing some of the stupid shit that can get a rise out of even the most level headed people at times.
My whole goal when this started, once Kenzi got put into the ring, was to actually lend credibility to Kenzi Grey. I wanted to make the character go from the shit she seems to be perceived as by the majority, into an actual threat in the ring. Get her started on a better and tougher path.
So if she wins, that's a success, right? So why the fuck was I so pissed off about the second RP being posted so close to deadline? I have nothing concrete, just that usually those who did stuff like this were typically waiting until the opposition was at a point where they couldn't reply. I would have preferred the option to reply.
It's all good. If anyone else wants to stay pissed off about this, you may. That is your right as a living breathing human being, but do you really want to weaken your heart over something involving fiction? Anyhoot, thank you for your time and I hope all is forgiven in the end.
