Following the loss to Nessa Wall in Toronto in Empire Pro Wrestling, Kenzi had been more than happy to quickly leave under the cover of night to hide the embarrassment of her failure. She had hoped that she would overcome the woman’s talent by sheer force of will, but in the end it was just not to be. The match had come out of the blue for many, but Kenzi had REALLY believed that it was her time to shine. Her confidence had been complete…at least…right up until the moment Amy Jo Smyth began to needle her about it…outright poking Empire Pro in the eye just to take the shine off of HER moment.
Kenzi had done her best to keep her confidence HIGH and show the world that she did deserve this chance and she was worthy of carrying EPW on her back. She projected the confidence of a woman who would defeat the EPW Champion and prove to everyone that she had earned her spot in the main event and that she was a threat to anyone holding championship gold. She told herself that 1000 times…but the retort had come back 1001 times…
Sentiments echoed by a supposed ‘friend’ and foes alike. In the end, it came to pass just like Amy Jo Smyth, Paz Guevara, and Nessa Wall had said...
It was a crushing defeat and Kenzi’s self-confidence was shattered. That often came right after a tough loss, but this one FELT different. This one stung her in a way that many others didn’t. She had been given a grand stage on which to perform; the main event! Many wrestlers fought their entire careers to get to that spot and never achieved it. Kenzi had made it there and instead of being heralded for making it…she was berated for even being there. Instead of touted as a threat…she was mocked as being little more than a speed bump. EPW was already hard at work building up Nessa Wall vs. Smith Jones before she’d had a chance to shower off the sweat from her loss.
The question for Kenzi Grey was…where would she go from here…?
