GREY-LACKLAN WEDDING
Lacklanland
August 26, 2017
Sidney Grey had been in a foul mood all morning as the hour of her daughter’s marriage to Sarah Selena Lacklan approached. She had vowed that the two of them would never be married on her watch. As the two girls stood at the front of the massive cathedral and prepared to exchange vows of their own, it seemed less and less likely that Sid would get her way.
“If anyone has cause why Sarah and Kenzi should not be wed, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.”
When the priest spoke, Sid nearly jumped out of her chair, it was only the strong hand and deadly serious look of Coda that kept Sid silent. Sid wrung her hands nervously as she prayed that someone would have something to say to stop this farce from happening.
“Ahem!”
Everyone looked for the source of the throat clearing, and Ashley Marie Chase, one of the bridesmaids gave an apologetic look. “…sorry…had a frog in my throat…”
This gave everyone a good laugh, except Sid. The remainder of the service went off without a hitch and Sid stormed out as soon as it was over. She paced back and forth outside like a caged animal. She knew that this was wrong in every sense of the word, but she could not stop it…try as she might.
“Ms. Grey! Is service over?!”
Sid looked up as Dani Chow, their attorney ran up with a frantic look on her face. Sid stopped her, holding her by her shoulders. “What is this about?” Dani held up a piece of paper and Sid took it from her and read over it quickly. As she did, a big broad smile spread across her face. She glanced up at Dani, her smile faltering a bit, “You’re sure this is real this time…not like the last one?”
Dani nodded, her clipped accent more pronounced. “This real! When Dani Chow find it, Dani Chow think it also not real…but this one real!” She started to reach for the paper. “Kenzi Grey need to see this!”
Sid pulled the paper away from her. “Not so fast! She’ll see it…just not today.” Sid looked at the cathedral with a vile sneer. “Let Kenzi and Sarah have their happy day. This can wait for tomorrow night at Queen of the Ring.” Dani gave her a questioning look and Sid laughed, “Well, all of the people will be right there!”
Sid dismissed Dani then she tucked the paper away and smiled as she spoke to herself, “…I told you that you’d never marry Sarah…looks like I’m not the liar you thought I was…” She chuckled to herself, “Tomorrow night is going to be VERY interesting.”
