Somewhere backstage we come to Carmen sitting down with Etsuko in an interview set up. Two chairs angled toward the camera while still giving the chance for both to face one another. There's a black speckled backdrop to allow the two to come out a little more as a table rests in between them with a pitcher of water and a couple glasses. Why? Because someone thought they'd be nice.
Carmen: Hello, everyone, I'm here next to Etsuko Mitzusaka who...in just a matter of days will be squaring off in the ring against Darlin' Clementine. Etsuko,
Carmen begins as Etsuko nods turning her attention up from the water. She wants some and the person who put it there is ever hopeful.
Carmen: You've already spoken a great deal about Clementine's personality and, as I understand it, it isn't something you currently find yourself on board with. Is it a matter of you as a wrestler? Because I've also heard that there are several within the country of Japan that look as outside otaku's as being...a bad thing.
Etsuko: If you mean, Miss. Carmen, that it is of national pride that I am unamused with Miss. Clementine's approach...no. The Followers of Red share no nations, there are no borders or boundaries between us. When I first stepped into the light of the Red Lady, I forsook a lot of things. Nationality being among them. It is simply because I was asked the nation of my birth that Japan is even in my information.
Carmen: So it's a personal thing then. The color? The vibrancy?
Etsuko: I do not understand where you are attempting to lead me with this line of questioning, Miss. Carmen. I have stated my disinterest, that is all there is to it. At times there is simply no need for a reason. You simply just do not like.
Carmen: Fair enough,
Even in this tense situation, one has to wonder...will they drink the water? Seriously, one is wondering that.
Carmen: So have you familiarized yourself with Clementine's style? With her in so many outlets you must have watched something.
Etsuko: No.
Carmen: Really?
Etsuko: Miss. Carmen, if I sat her and began saying things like “I have seen tapes of Miss. Clementine's matches” it paves way for her to mix her style. To say that someone of her nature exists purely on one could very well be an incorrect statement. She somehow manages to make due learning out the various styles she's going up against in order to survive.
She pauses and shrugs.
Etsuko: Or she has been a complete failure all this time and this match will be no exception toward that. The fact is, there is little I can learn in watching Miss. Clementine in action. Maybe she has seen all of us and has decided that coming here will be like a fresh start. Perhaps she looks at us as a training ground, a location to test out new moves in a competitive setting. It says in her profile; she likes to have fun before she gets serious.
Carmen: Indeed it does. So you hold nothing new to offer then for your match?
Etsuko: No. In fact, it is not even a result of her that I requested this time with you.
Carmen: Oh?
Etsuko: I require presence as I address another situation. A situation involving Miss. Maki.
Carmen: Ah.
Carmen nods and checks her notes seeing that she was indeed going to get there herself.
Carmen: It seems she really didn't take too kindly to your interfering of her match with Kenzi.
Etsuko: A fact that, should she have listened to what I said, would not have been a problem for her.
Carmen: How do you mean?
Carmen asks touching a finger to her chin. Someone drink the water.
Etsuko: I told her I would accept no threats to come between myself and Miss. Kenzi, that our rematch would not be the cluster that the first match was.
Carmen: I...still don't get why Maki was later in the wrong then for her words and, well, flipping you off.
Etsuko: I made it clear I consider her a threat.
Things are clear now to Carmen who...TAKES THE WATER!!! YAY!
Etsuko: Had I not believed as such I would not have interfered to stop the match. This is a fact that Miss. Maki should be prideful of.
Carmen: So...you thought she was going to defeat Kenzi and get involved in your match as a result.
Etsuko: Yes.
Carmen: I still don't think that's going to at all calm Maki any. If anything it might cause her to push harder, maybe even retaliate.
Etsuko: Something I completely understand and why I am here now. To speak to her, to offer her a contingency plan.
Carmen: Okay.
Etsuko: If she is still upset over how the match between herself and Miss. Kenzi transpired, then I will allow her to challenge me for that.
Carmen: You'll...allow her to challenge you?
Etsuko: Yes. If she is so upset that she wishes things to become physical, I will allow her to voice her grievances and then throw out her fists in any manner she chooses.
Carmen: You mean stipulation.
Etsuko nods.
Carmen: So you're allowing Maki to challenge you in any kind of match she wants? What if she wants your contendership?
Etsuko: No.
She practically hisses.
Etsuko: That is not on the table. This is not about my contendership, it is about her failure to see my belief in her as a potential threat. In fact, I will even sweeten the deal and state that if she defeats me in this match then, after reclaiming the Breakout Title from Miss. Kenzi's grasp, she will have the first shot.
Carmen: That's admirable, I sup-oh.
Carmen stops when she notices Etsuko standing up.
Carmen: You're done?
Etsuko: There is nothing more to be said. Miss. Clementine will fall, Miss. Maki needs to learn self control, and Miss. Kenzi's days with the title are numbered.
And with that Etsuko leaves with Carmen watching on. At least someone enjoyed the water in the end.
Carmen: Water's a little warm...
Well damn.
