The service finished, the congregation bow their heads in collective unison uttering the final prayer as lead by the priestess standing up by the altar. Following the echoed “amen” the priestess brings her head up with a smile looking over everyone as though she had something else worth adding. With all attentive eyes upon her, she makes the grand announcement finding it difficult to conceal her overgrown excitement.
Priestess: I'm sure by now you've heard the gentle rumblings as of late.
As with the rest of the crowd, Etsuko listens intently. There were several rumors flying around, but only a few were big enough to be addressed in such a manner to everyone like this. Looking around, the joshi could see clasped hands all hoping for what they each viewed as their own terrific set of news.
Priestess: And the rumors are true, a fair number of us have been doing up the work, under the graceful eye of our Goddess,
A few praises in the crowd, even one whispered out by Etsuko herself.
Priestess: That the Followers of Red be fully recognized and viewed as its own religion.
Some slight gasps from the crowd, those that were finding it just as hard as the priestess to contain her excitement. Unable to speak the words, the priestess just smiles and nods earning an uproarous cheer from the congregation. Many stand to applaud, others cry tears of joy into their hands clasped together for silent prayer. Like a few others, Etsuko just sits there stunned, unable to comprehend what is all going on as the priestess works to silent everyone down so she can continue.
Priestess: As of today, well...yesterday really, the Followers of Red has been accepted as a fully recognized religion. Our Goddess, the Red Lady, is now, and will forever remain, a perfect diety.
There's more cheers, more praises from the crowd as the celebration seemingly begins. Etsuko remains in the pew clapping her hands realizing there's going to be a lot for her to take in now. Though as the celebration gets going, Etsuko rises from her seat leaving out the front door for some air. This was far too much. It was good, it was just overwhelming. The Red Lady had always been her Goddess, she never questioned it. Yet to hear that it was only just made official...
“Good news, huh?”
Etsuko turns when she hears the voice, one that was only vaguely familiar to her. It belongs to the choir girl, the blond one Etsuko had helped into the now religion some time ago. The one who professed her love only to be turned down and yet Etsuko couldn't help watching her through the choirs constant performances throughout the services. It wasn't lust that drew Etsuko's eye, more that of a mother watching her child. Glad to know they were safe.
Choir Girl: I hope you don't mind, I overheard the conversation you were having with Lady Caretaker about your future.
Etsuko fully turns to the girl in the red robe, the hood slung down over her back. The robe itself just about matched the same one Etsuko wore during her own rituals in preparing the Masks of Sacrifice. Red, long, and could conceal her face if she wasn't already covering her face with her fox mask.
Choir Girl: I don't know what a charge's punishment could be-
Etsuko: Expulsion.
Etsuko answers as the girl covers a hand across her shocked face.
Etsuko: A charge that cannot be handled holds no purpose. Miss. Domino is my second handler, I have failed too many times before to lose Miss. Nikki and I am on the verge of the same amount of failure.
Choir Girl: No, Miss. Etsuko, you won't fail.
She assures taking a step toward the joshi who instinctively steps back prompting the girl to stop her approach. After a moment to try and erase the awkwardness, she continues.
Choir Girl: Would...you accept that? There's room in the choir-
Etsuko: I would not accept expulsion.
The girl appears glad, though at the same time saddened, to hear that from Etsuko letting her continue.
Etsuko: There is little I can offer the Goddess, in fact all that I can offer I am already doing. I will turn things around and I will try much harder as I proceed forward. Miss. Maria will finally become a sacrifice allowing my honor to be restored and then I will relinquish the gift I gave to the Goddess from the unworthy Miss. Kenzi.
Names the choirgirl wasn't all too familiar with, but it was nice hearing the passion in Etsuko's voice, to know she hadn't given up.
Choir Girl: I'm glad to hear that, Miss. Etsuko. I know if anyone can achieve these goals, it'll be you. Praise to the Red Lady.
Etsuko: Praise be unto the Red Lady.
Etsuko adds as the choirgirl gives a final smile and turns to rejoin those still in celebration inside the church. The joshi is about to join her when she pauses wondering why the girl had chosen to come out in the first place.
