Grazing her hands along some wild growing flowers, Etsuko kneels within the field in behind Twilight Manor. The sky is just partly cloudy and, as her hair and trees off in the distance give evidence, there's a slight breeze going by.
Etsuko: Brainwashed...uncertain...frightened...I have been classified by many, many names. Brutal, vengeful, bloodthirsty. Names that many should know, but they do not. They do not because they do not know the story.
Etsuko picks a dead dandelion from the ground bringing it close to her lips.
Etsuko: The story of a little girl.
She blows into the seeds sending them off far in the air watching them go to their new homes.
Etsuko: When she was born her path was set. There would be no love, no tenderness, no warmth. Her life was forfeit as she was delivered as part of a loan payment. From a young age she was trained to fight, to feel no remorse. When she was twelve she was given her right of passage into becoming an adult; she would be sent to collect. Her first target were her own parents.
The joshi's hand once more grazes along the flowers and grass bending them down before letting them bounce back up into position.
Etsuko: A fitting retribution, but the little girl did not think so. She had a task and had no care for whom she was taking back from. By the end she was bathed in blood and held the money to her trainers. She was not met with praise, only more darkness. This went on for years, but by this point the little girl had long since accepted this as her fate.
She reaches and picks a red flower out from the field, her lips curling up into a smile when she brings it up to her nose breathing in the scent.
Etsuko: And then She came. No matter how dark the little girls heart had become, the Goddess, the Red Lady could still see a spark of light and reached in for it. When She pulled She didn't rip the remaining bliss from the little girls heart, She had it shine the darkness away. For the first time, the little girl was happy. She was happy because she had a real place in this world.
Gently twisting the flower between her fingers, Etsuko turns looking directly at us.
Etsuko: That is all that is wanted to be shared. Purpose, love, understanding. Do you not wish to be immortalized? Who were your parents? Your grand parents? Your great grand parents and beyond? Names lost in the sands of time but yours doesn't need to be.
Etsuko stands letting her gown flow down along her legs as she brings the single flower into both hands making a slow approach through the field.
Etsuko: A cult is what it has been called. A place of acceptance should be the real definition. I am certain you have seen how the world acts. Full of individuals rushing around, no time for anyone other than themselves. What form of world is that to live in? A world where your efforts are ignored? A world where hate drives you forward? No, who would choose that when they have the option to something far greater?
Stopping, Etsuko turns making Twilight Manor loom over her shoulders far off in the background.
Etsuko: Your first step does not have to be a hard one and your final step does not have to be a lonely one. Do not walk along the shores...when you can fly in the skies.
Etsuko continues to smile as the scene
fades in red.
