THE REEVES-GREY MANOR
Los Angeles, California
14 February 2017
Inside the lovely egg shaped home that encapsulated the lives of polar opposites, Kenzi Grey and Melissa Reeves; there erupted a bloodcurdling scream that sent their feline friend, Kitty Purry into a whirling tornado of furry fright as she darted back and forth…
“OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!”
Melissa ran from the kitchen, and down the hallway of Kenzi’s side of the house; skidding to a stop outside her door. The athletic beauty with the piercing blue eyes that were now wide with panic, banged on the door.
“KENZI! WHAT’S WRONG?!”
A moment later, the door opened and Kenzi stood there, her face ashen, a blank stare in her large brown eyes. In her hand, she held a crumbled up paper. She held it out to her roommate, a woman who had become as close to her as a sister.
Mel…I’m married…”
Melissa arched her brow as she reached down and plucked it from Kenzi’s hand. She looked at the barbeque stained paper and then glared at her eccentric friend, cocking her head to the side.
“Kenzi, this is a Hooters menu!”
Kenzi reached up, taking the menu from her hand as she turned it around, showing her the back of it.
"Look…”
Melissa’s brow creased as she eyed the scribble on the back which appeared to be a crudely written ‘certificate of marriage’ between Mackenzie Michaela Grey and her boyfriend of last year, Parker Van Peters. Melissa gave a hard sigh as she scratched her head, unsure of how to approach this topic. It certainly wasn’t something that she ever thought she’d be saying in a million year…to anyone.
"Kenzi...marriage certificates aren’t written on the backs of menus. Also, I am fairly certain that no one has gotten married at a Hooters. Well, no one north of the Mason-Dixson line, at least.”
Kenzi gave a hard sigh; she had meant it to be one of relief, but she honestly was not even convinced herself. Her relationship with Parker had been…unique. After the mess with JMC and Tina, his brand of neurotic fun was just what she needed to get back on her feet. Parker had come at a perfect time for her, and while his past with the Cornett clan was just as murky as hers, together they had been a whacky and fun loving duo. Though she didn’t remember getting married to him, the idea certainly didn’t seem beyond the realm of possibility for the pair.
“Mel…I swear I don’t remember getting married to Parker, let alone in a Hooters, but this has the ring of truth to me! Parker loved Hooters…and not just for the breasts Mel! No! He enjoyed the wings and their nachos! He loved them Mel…HE FUCKING LOVED THOSE ZESTY GODDAMN NACHOS!! He could sit there all day eating them…plenty of time to pull a Bill Cosby, then marry the fucking shit out of me while I’m passed out!”
She looked at the menu again, her face twisting into a mask of tortured angst.
“I’M MRS. VAN PETERS! AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF I GOT LUCKY ON MY WEDDING NIGHT!”
Kenzi erupted into tears and Melissa rolled her eyes as she walked into Kenzi’s room and took her to the large four post bed; sitting her down on the overly cushy mattress. She rubbed her hand up and down Kenzi’s back as she tried to sooth her.
“I really don’t know what to do with you! For someone who is so naïve, you live the most interesting life of buffoonery that I have ever seen! If I had to bet real money that your marriage wasn’t real…knowing you…I’m sure I’d lose! You’re such a freaking weirdo!”
She laughed as she gave Kenzi a good shake, inspiring her to crack a little smile. Kenzi turned to Mel and hugged her, whispering in her ear.
“…sorry I didn’t invite you to the wedding…I was probably passed out somewhere pissy drunk; while my new husband ate nachos and got barbeque sauce all over my damn marriage certificate…”
Melissa rolled her eyes, as she took Kenzi’s hand, doing what she could to console her...
