LACKLANLAND MANOR
Lacklanland, Maine
21 April 2017
Kenzi Grey hardly slept a wink that night as she lay next to her soulmate in their usual tangle of arms and legs; black flesh against stark white…the contrast seemed so natural to her, she was always so fascinated whenever Sarah Lacklan pointed it out...she herself had never considered it. After spending the week in Lacklanland, she understood why. There were none about with the richness of her heritage, but she was not looked down upon, in fact, she seemed to be viewed only as a curiosity. Sarah had cleaved to her that week, not only in her grief, but to show them all that they were a couple…joined not only in flesh but in spirit as well.
...Kenzi kissed her bare back, hugging the one she called her 'mine' her tighter…
Today was going to be tough; which is why she wanted last night to be so special. The cocktails, the formal dinner, the dancing, the singing…it had all been designed to take her mind off her solemn duty…her final farewell to her father. Had she cried all of the tears she had to cry? Kenzi could not know or well imagine. At her tender age, she had been fortunate enough not to have lost anyone close to her…yet.
Jean Paul Lacklan would technically be the first, though they had met but once. He had accepted her with open arms and encouraged her union with Sarah…much to her surprise. His sage advice had strengthened their bond in a way that no one else would ever know...especially given the specifics of Kenzi's mental condition. Kenzi had expected the man to be a bit more closed-minded…a bit more mindful of his legacy. With Sarah as his sole heir, she would have suspected that he would one day want a child that could continue the bloodline…not that there were not ways around such a thing, but that was just another example of the kind of man that he was.
Today…if Sarah did not cry…she would definitely need to console Kenzi. Jean Paul Lacklan was gone from this earth and he had entrusted Kenzi with his most precious gift…
…HIS mine…
