PrOLOGUE
Seeing the Vaughnemous kick in action almost made Ashley forget what she was doing momentarily. But she watched and she stood in preparation. Kicking Tala in the stomach, she looked around the cheering crowd as she pulled her arms up, pulling her into the double arm underhook position.
Looking down, she said loudly “You’ve just bumped into the Queens of Wrestling” Before planting her down with the Pedigree. Hooking the leg for the pin, she sees Angelica pounce on Jazzy as the referee counts the one, two and three.
It is that rush. That feeling of hitting your own finisher... It’s a feeling that many people would never encounter, and it is a feeling that Ashley is getting a rush from as her hand, alongside Angelica’s, is lifted, proclaiming them the winners.
Looking toward the entryway, she sees them. The Boardwalk Angels. They’re applauding them and encouraging the crowd to do the same thing. Nodding toward them in a mutual mark of respect she watches them walk away before looking at Angelica with a broad smile, completely unaware of what is about to happen.
SCENE ONE: D’YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
Noel Gallagher 1997
Step off the train all alone at dawn
Back into the hole where I was born
The sun in the sky never raised an eye to me”
Stepping back off the train had been 22 year old Ashley Moore’s biggest fear. Her childhood home seemed to loom large over the whole landscape and so did her mother’s face. She was about to drop the bombshell of all bombshells and it was going to be about as easy as a Rubik’s cube to the color blind.
“I met my maker
I made him cry
And on my shoulder he asked me why
His people won't fly through the storm
I said listen up man, they don't even know you're born”
Walking up to the front door, she shivered ever so slightly before knocking on the huge door. Not expecting anything she contemplated turning around and leaving. Then, the steady creak of the door woke her out of the dream, giving way to the nightmare she was now about to experience.
“Jeffrey!” She exclaimed, giving him a warm hug. He’d been her butler when she was but a little girl and the fact he was still here now, hugging her twenty two year old self was testament to how fair her parents were, in both wages and treatment. He’d sat with them for dinner every evening and he was one of the family, no mere paid slave.
“It’s been forever since I saw you last, young lady, how are you?”
“I’ve been good” She lied, opting not to tell him what she was actually here for.
Stepping into the vast hallway filled Ashley with something that made her nearly want to puke. Nostalgia, thoughts of a different time, a time where Graffiti on The Train had never happened. A time where she was no longer the lesbian, a time when her and Steven lasted, a time when Scott had not snorted cocaine off her body before fucking her until the early hours.
“If you could rewind
Your time, would it change
Your life?”

“But Daddy!” had been what she’d said after being told that she couldn’t have another Christmas present, her father scooping her up in his broad arms and planting a wet, sloppy kiss on her lips, he looked at her with such love and adoration while he hugged her and in that moment, she, at five years old, felt the most secure she ever would again.
“If we give you all the presents, what would your brothers have?” He’d said, his warm smile filling her with such comfort.
“Would it change your life?”

Shaking herself out of these thoughts, Ashley made her way to the main living room, bumping straight into her mother. A woman so cold that you could rest cans of beer next to her and they’d be cool enough to drink within twenty minutes.
“Aislynn, how are you?” She’d said without even so much as a hug or anything resembling contact before looking at her sternly. “I assume you’ve got over your gap year? I don’t know, you never keep in touch”
“Mom, I’m sorry, I needed to find myself, I would have kept in touch but I had things on my mind” She said, lying again. She’d been busy fucking some student that she’d met in a café in Paris. Two months that had lasted before she got bored and left him on his own, free to shoot himself in the head. That was what she had read anyway, a lone man in the motel they were staying in had killed himself via a gunshot wound to the head.
“Mom, I have something to tell you and Daddy, but I need him to be here. I know I’ve been a disappointment to you and I know I had such potential… But I just needed to discover myself and I was never going to do that here.
Jennifer Moore called up the stairs to Robert Moore, a still hulking man who came down the stairs like he was about to fuck shit up, until he saw Ashley. He broke out in a beaming smile, looking less like Hank Schrader as he descended the steps, now looking more a kinder Jim Rennie.
“Babygirl! How have you been? It’s been so long since we last spoke.”
Ashley jumped into his arms, kissing him on the cheek as his arms enveloped her.
She stopped briefly, leading them into the parlour, pouring them both a drink, vodka. For herself she poured a Bulleit.
“It’s about time I was a little more honest with you, both of you. Mom, I never meant to be so distant. Christmas time a couple of years ago was one of my worst times. I know I did wrong but I want to make this right. I don’t want to be visiting here every year knowing that it’s just a matter of courtesy.”
Both of her parents took a drink from their glasses, her father imploring her to carry on.
“Mom, dad…..I am in love with a woman. Her name is Emily, she’s waiting in the garden. I didn’t want to bring her in. I was worried what you’d think of me.”
Both of her parents stood up, throwing their arms around her, her mother holding onto her tightly as she spoke. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would have fell on a sword for you if you’d willed it”
“Can she come in then?” Had been her first question. Her mother and father both responded in the positive and walked to the front door with her as she called out her name.
“Would it change your life?”

She never even wanted to be there, truth be told. Christmas time around the Moore household was always a bitter time, at least in her eyes. Her mother had never cared for her and this was the year that would ultimately prove it. She’d watched, through the slit door of the bathroom, her mother taking an intoxicating amount of pills. She’d been 12 at this point and ready to watch her own mother commit suicide. She’d begged and pleaded for her not to do it but her mother had been completely unmovable in her resolve. It had been the allergic reaction that had saved her and for that, Ashley both hated and loved Jennifer Moore.
She continued telling stories after Emily had come into the house, the four of them just telling jokes and stories until the sun rose. Finally, Ashley knew who she was and she knew who her family was.

Slamming the door, Ashley stepped into Angelica’s hospital room, crying her eyes out
“What is your deal? You are eighteen years old and you’re being smashed from behind with a steel chair? Don’t even let me talk about the steel stairs!
She’d heard all the talk from the agent and felt more than ever like smacking the taste out of her mouth before she just quietly said goodbye to Angelica,

Ashley stood by with Angelica, clad in head guard. Taking the microphone, she raised it to her ruby tinged lips and spoke.
“We reach an impasse, we reach the point where neither us nor the Prime Addiction are ready to say anything. Angelica has said her point, as has Maya Jensen. Now is the time I step forward and remind you of just who the Hell I am!
Maya, Abby…Have you ever had a dream so scary, so terrifying? Something that you’re not even sure you’ve woken up from? Do you see it in your waking hours?”
She stopped for a second.
“I can assure you that you’re reliving that dream in your waking hours is because it’s ME, It’s me that visits you because I am your maker, I am the Queen of Queens! I am everything you were ever afraid of, I am Nero’s backing fiddle player. I AM THE GAME! I am everything you ever feared, I am everything you ever dreamed!”
She turns to Angelica, smiling as she does so.
“This girl has just had her head caved in by a man that will learn his lesson. Why is she out here with me? Why is she not in a hospital bed? There is one simple answer to that question to that. For now I will tell you a story about Angelica Vaughn.
This girl is eighteen years old and has already experienced more than anyone should have gone through. She is the only Medal of Honor holder at XHW, she is the only woman I fear! I hand my mic to her.
“You don’t get it do you? You don’t see how serious we are. You dismiss us as an afterthought but we are so much more. We are the Queens of Wrestling! Yeah you heard it! It’s true. The QoW trademark is nice but it doesn’t lie that we are what we say we are.”
“We are everything you’ve ever dreaded” Angie said as Ashley walked off..
