November 15th 2017
Milisandre Crowthorne stared out the window of the rental car as Bruce drives them from Portland down to Salem. Mil’s family was doing Thanksgiving dinner a little over a week early to accommodate Mil’s busy schedule leading up to Night of Glory IV. She was mentally preparing herself for the news she was going to have to drop on her family. That she was engaged to Bruce. Just yesterday they had gone out and Bruce bought her a ring to make it official. He was so amazing, without any say from her he had picked one with an octopus motif.
She loved the ring. She loved Bruce. She was over the moon happy that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. The usual shy and awkwardness that permeated Mil’s being was, at least temporarily, thrown off. She was all smiles. She couldn’t wait to show Sarah and Kenzi the ring. She couldn’t wait to tell her friends that they were all going to be a part of her wedding. She hoped that Sarah would be well enough by the time they decided to get married to be her maid of honor. She wanted so many things. She was definitely going to have to have help. And she knew just who she was going to ask. Kenzi Grey-Lacklan had told her she would return the favor Mil did for her wedding.
But first she had to tell her family. Her entire family. Sure Bruce had met her parents, and they absolutely loved him. But he hadn’t met her brothers yet. That was what she was really worried about today. They were typical older brothers. They were over protective of their weird little sister. They were also the polar opposite of Mil. They were popular in school, both stars of the sports teams. One was the star Quarterback and the other was Captain of the Basketball team. She was positive that they would like Bruce, he was a lot like them, but it was going to take them getting past the fact that he was engaged to their little sister.
“I really hope my stupid brothers don’t cause a scene today.” Mil spoke without moving her gaze from the passing scenery. She wasn’t even seeing it, not that it was familiar enough to her. She had made the trip between Salem and Portland and back more times than she could count.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine Lu.” Bruce smile and took one of his hands off the wheel and put it on her thigh. That brought a smiler to Mil’s face as she turned to look at him.
“Yeah, well, you don’t know my brothers like I do babe. I know that my mom told them I was bring my new boyfriend to dinner tonight. But I’m, like, worried they will flip their shit that you are actually my fiance.”
“You really think they are going to hate me?”
Mil huffs and worms her hand under his, lacing their fingers together. “I wouldn’t say hate. But, like, they are really protective of me. They always have been. Big brother type stuff. But, like, you are a lot like them really. They were popular and played sports. So, hopefully you can, like, bond with them over that.” A sigh escapes her lips. “I’m so not ready for all the shit I’m gonna catch from them about you.”
Bruce chuckles and shakes his head. “Am I really that different from the guys you dated before?”
“Yes, you really are babe. But, like, that’s because you know how I am. Always quiet and never one to speak up or chase after anyone really.” She looks down at their hands, trying to hide her blush.
“That just makes you that much more interesting Lu.”
“Can you, like, stop being so perfect?” That smile that had hardly left her face returned as she looked up at Bruce. She was so deeply in love and infatuated with him. She literally couldn’t imagine her life without him in it.
Later that day
Mil opens the door to her parents house while also knocking on it. “We’re here!” She calls out to her parents or whoever was listening. She closed the door behind Bruce and they started to take off their jackets when a voice called backed.
“The weirdos are finally here huh?” The voice is followed by a man with the same dark hair as Mil. The voice, and what it said, drew a resigned sigh and roll of the eyes from Mil. Her oldest brother, David, stopped short upon seeing Bruce towering behind Mil. “Oh, hey there. I’m David.” He held out his hand towards Bruce.
“Bruce.” He takes the offered hand and shakes it. He also squeezes it a lot harder than he normally would during a regular handshake. The entire time Bruce keeps his gaze locked onto David’s, judging his reaction. Bruce finally let’s go and places an arm around Mil. David does his best to hide how much his hand hurt and chuckled.
“Nice to finally meet my little sister’s boyfriend.”
“David you dick will you ever leave Mil and her weir...” Mil’s other brother, Alex, stops and stares in awe. Mil and Bruce did make the odd couple, that was for sure.
“Alex, this is Bruce.” Mil spoke her her awed brother with a slight chuckle. Bruce offered his hand and Alex recovered enough to accept it. A similar exchange happened between the two that went down with Mil’s other brother. After the handshake Alex wasn’t as hard or full of himself as David and shook his hand out, trying to get some of the feeling back.
“God, you got a grip don’t you?”
“So I’ve been told.”
“God, you two can try and having your pissing contest with Bruce later. I need a drink so, like, where are they?” Mil pushed past her brothers dragging Bruce along with her.
“In the fridge where they always are you alchy.”
Mil turns and sticks her tongue out at David and flips him off.
“I thought we raised you better than that little lady.” Mil’s dad playfully admonishes her before holding his arms out.
“Hey dad!” Mil lets go of Bruce and gives her dad a hug. “I’m glad we could do this early since I’ll be busy next week. I always love having Thanksgiving here at home. Even if my brothers are assholes.” She turns and shoots a glare at her brothers who both throw on an innocent face before laughing.
“Eh, we gotta give our weird little sister a hard time.” The pair walk past her and Alex ruffles her hair. Mil slaps his shoulder playfully in response.
“Well, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving if we didn’t have our little Mili here.” Her mom poked her head out of the kitchen. “Hello Bruce, nice to see you again.”
“Mom!” Mil groans and rolls her eyes.
“Nice to see you as well Mrs. Crowthorne, Mr. Crowthorne.” Bruce shakes hands with Mil’s Dad, no where near as forceful as he was with her brothers, and then accepts a hug from her mother.
Mil and Bruce are both offered a drink by David and the accept them. Bruce takes a sip from his as Mil down’s a third of hers. She wanted to get this over with sooner rather than later and she needed the courage. “Uh, mom, how long till the food is ready?”
“About another hour or so dear.”
“Cool, so we just gonna hang out in the living room?”
“Sounds good to me.” Mil, Bruce, and her family all transition into the living room and take seats. Mil takes another large swig from her drink before deciding that it was now or never.
“So, like, I am glad everyone is here cause I have something I need to talk to you all about.” She starts to fidget with her drink. Bruce notices and holds one of her hands to give her support.
“You aren’t pregnant are you?” David asks, surprised.
“No you dick!” Mil glares daggers at him “If that was the case we would be having Thanksgiving next week on the right day.”
“David! Be nice, this is obviously something important to your sister.”
Mil takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. She squeezes Bruce’s hand and looks up at her parents. “Bruce and I are going to get married. Sometime in the future. Not, like, next week or anything.” She braces for a bad reaction.
All is quiet for a moment before her mom stands up and rushes over to her. “My little girl is gonna be getting married!?” She pulls Mil up to her feet and wraps her in a hug. “I’m so happy for you, both of you. You couldn’t have picked a better guy!”
“Thanks mom.” Mil is able to worn her way out of her mother’s embrace as Bruce stands to get a hug from his future mother-in-law. Mil’s dad comes up to give her a hug and shake Bruce’s hand again. Her brother’s exchange a look. Alex obviously trying, and failing, to not have David say anything stupid.
David stands and walks over to the couple. He stands in front of Bruce, looking up at him, with a serious expression. “You hurt my little sister and I will kill you. I don’t care how big you are.”
“David! Why are you such an asshole?” Mil glares at her oldest brother, but Bruce just smiles.
“That will never happen, David, so don’t worry about it. I would give my live if it meant saving hers.” Mil blushes and buries her face in her hands. “And I would pay money to see you try and kill me.”
Four heads all turn to look at the two men facing off. Four jaws drop open almost in unison. David grins and playfully gives Bruce a punch in the shoulder. “Good answer man. Welcome to the family!” David turns and picks up Mil in a hug as Alex joins in with the congratulations.
“I assume you have a ring already? Lemme see it!” Mil grins sheepishly and holds out her left hand showing everyone in her family the engagement ring on her finger.
“An octopus, go figure. Either way, like David said. Welcome to the family Bruce. Glad my little girl picked a decent guy to marry.” The continue to talk as Mil and her mom start talking about ideas for the wedding and who was gonna be doing what.
November 24th 2017, Black Friday
Mil sat on the couch in Sativa’s living room with Bruce. Kenzi and Sarah were there too, along with Sativa’s Pharaoh hound Pond. The four were house and dog sitting a bit for Sativa while she was in Miami for the week preparing for her debut.
“Hey, Um, I talked to Sativa and she said I could use her recording equipment in her smoking room for some promotional work before Night of Glory. So, like, I’m gonna go do that. I’ll be back out in a little bit.” Kenzi and Bruce nodded their acknowledgement. Mil gave Bruce a quick kiss before leaving the room.
She sat down on the couch that was known to a lot of Sativa’s fans. Mil looked so out of place in the psychedelic room in her black shirt and dark blue jeans. She sighed then started speaking. “So, like, here we are. Just a couple of days before Night of Glory IV. The five way cluster fuck ladder match for the Breakout title. Tensions are obviously running high. We are all on edge. Well, I, like, assume everyone else is. The self proclaimed number one contender, Maria Spencer, is MIA. Maybe she got a taste of her own medicine and got a hit done on her. Maybe she is, like, sleeping with the fishes, or whatever it is they do nowadays or not in the movies. But whatever. Just goes to show that she never was anything more than lucky in her win against Etsuko. And as I said before, that she shouldn’t even be in this match.”
She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, her disgust evident. “Well, with that literally waste of oxygen out of the way I think I’ll address my best friend in this match, Kenzi. Kenz, I know you are sitting in the other room taking care of Sarah, with the help of Bruce. We had our own issues to work out. I think, for the most part, we are through all of them but this match. I was able to catch what you had to say shortly after the official match was announced with the rest of the event. I also know that was before we had settled our issues.”
A pause and bite of her lip. “I just, like, hope that after this match, no matter the outcome,we will be back on friendly terms. I understand that the things you had said towards me were fueled by the anger you had over our misunderstanding. I hold no ill will towards you Kenz, I really don’t. Like, I heard them before the stuff that has happened this week and like I told you, I’m always gonna be there for you and Sarah. It’s the least I could do as your friend and what you have done for me. But make no mistake Kenz, this match will be a trial for both of us. I won’t go easy on you, and I hope you will give me the same respect. I know you probably still hold some anger towards me. That would only be natural. ”
“But, like, I hope that this match let’s you get that out. You can spend the entire thing beating me from pillar to post and back if you need to. I can take it. I just want there to be no ill will after this. We leave all of our issues in the ring after it’s all said and done. Weather it’s you or me walking out with the Breakout title I will be happy. I will admit, if it isn’t me I’ll be upset. I would be lying if I said otherwise. But I think that the pride and joy I feel for my friend walking out with the belt will be greater than my disappointment in myself. Let’s just make sure that one of us walks out with the belt, yeah?”
Mil brings her thumb up to her face and starts to chew on the nail for a moment. “You know, I’ve been wondering how to address things that have happened recently with Nova and her one third boyfriend Declan. I had an interview a few days ago with CTN magazine. I was kind of expecting it to happen sometime since, like, myself and Sativa were the only ones from the #CoolKids that haven’t had an interview in it yet. That’s not saying that the publication is biased or anything towards us. Just that, like, we are a hot commodity right now. We are literally the talk of the town most of the time. Everyone seems to have an opinion on us, good or bad. But, like, I did the interview because why not right? A few days later it was published and boy did it stir some shit.”
“I got a notification of when it was made publicly available and shortly after things went to shit. Well, technically it started a little before that. There were some other issues Kenzi was dealing with that involved me that seemed to start the shit storm. Nova’s boyfriend, for lack of a better term, decided to open his mouth and insult me. I have never met the guy, never talked to or Tweeted him. To be honest I wasn’t even sure if they were dating or just sleeping together. But he took issue with me. All because I said mean words to Nova.”
A look of confusion contorts Mil’s face as she scoffs. “Really? You got all up in your man-period because I said mean things to your second side chick? Oh, wait, that offends Nova, I think the proper term for whatever it is you are doing would be Sister Wife, right? Like that show on TLC about the polygamist mormon ‘family.’ Anyways he comes at me again, because I guess since it’s twenty seventeen words really do hurt. He had to try and fight a Twitter battle for her. As if she wasn’t a big enough girl to do it for herself.”
“You know, while that went down on Twitter, him coming at me, I got a call from Sativa and she told me somethings about Declan Black. I kind of alluded to them on Twitter and it seemed to shut him up for a bit. You see, she could have swore he was in some fucked up relationship a year or two back with a minor. Yeah, that’s right. He, alegedly, was fucking a minor. Weather it’s true or not I don’t know. I wasn’t on Twitter back then and none of these other wrestlers even had my attention. But even if it isn’t true, something like that just doesn’t happen without reason right? Like there has to be something there right? But, like I was willing to maybe give him the benefit of the doubt, right? Then when he comes at me again on Thanksgiving because of the interview I did, I do a little google search just to see exactly who he is. What do I find?”
She tilts her head to the side with the question. “That he is in a ‘relationship’ with not only Nova but two other women. Now, I’m usually one to let people do whatever they want but seriously? Are you for real? You want to come at me for your THIRD girlfriend? And get this. His argument and issue? That I didn’t flat out correct the interview who claimed that I was the real contender for the Breakout title. Something the magazine also put on their cover. Nevermind that after that was said about me, something that I have never said myself mind you, I explained that everyone in the match, aside from that worthless cunt Maria, deserved to be in the match. That there wasn’t a contender named until all four of us were at the last LAW event. But according to the, alleged, pedo thinks that facts don’t matter and don’t count to counter a statement. Speaks volumes right? I bet if there was a cold hard fact that he wasn’t a seedy child molester, again allegedly, that he wouldn’t say it was irrefutable proof that he wasn’t one. But that’s just how the world is now, right? The fact don’t matter unless they back up your narrative. I bet he is friends with Sam Tolson.”
“But enough about Nova’s one third boyfriend. Nova, sweetie, I know you want to be a good person. So I’ll give you some advice. Drop the deadbeat. There are a ton of great guys out there who won’t divide their time between two other women. Hell, you might even get one that adores whatever quirks you have. I know I was that lucky.”
“I’ve admitted it before and I will admit it again now, you won the one singles match we had. You clear on that? You won the match, you didn’t beat me. If anyone beat me in that match it was myself for not have a little better ring awareness. Had I gone for the Bow Down in the middle of the ring you wouldn’t even be in this match right now. So, just remember, that the only reason you are challenging for this title alongside Kenzi and I is because of a rookie mistake that another rookie was able to capitalize on. Not because you are better than me, or Kenzi, or even Etsuko. Because you really aren’t. You are almost as lucky as Maria. At least you have won more than one match in the last two or three months or however long it is you’ve been here.”
“Now, I’m sure you will have to comment on camera about how my singles record has tanked since I lost that match to you. Well, if losing one other match is tanking sure. But then again, I doubt you would have lasted a fraction of the time I did in that match. It took everything Kate Steele had to knock me out. I didn’t give up. I wasn’t pinned to made to submit. The ref stopped that match. I would have preferred it kept going until one of us actually said they quit. But I do realize that the company as an obligation to look out for the well being of their roster members. Despite the joke that I, and others, think Kate Steele is I earned her respect that night. The respect of the first ever LAW Champion. Can you say that? Despite losing that match it prepared me for this one. You see, I know my limits better now. I know the amount of pain and punishment my body can handle.”
A wicked grin slowly creeps onto her face. “And being in a match wit you I also know that you couldn’t do half of what Kate did. So come on down and try to hang with your betters. Just know that, despite what your ‘boyfriend’ thinks, there is no real ill will towards you. Sure there will be during the match but that is, like, what it’s about right? But after, I won;t have another care or thought about or for you. Go ahead and let Declan know that. Might work him up into another twitter shoot cause I said mean things to you again. Fucking loser.”
Mil pauses for a moment then lifts a remote and points it towards the camera. She slowly lowers it after a moment. “Oh, I almost forgot, the ‘champion’ Etsuko. Well. I’ll return the favor she has done to me. SHe wants to blow me off and ignore me. She wants to think that I am not a threat to her farce of a title reign. Well, Etsuko, here is what I think of you.”
“Ready?” Mil takes a deep as if peparing to go on a long rant. She then lifts the remote back up and the scene goes black.
