What do you give someone who, on the surface, already has everything she could possibly want?
Angelica found herself in the Staten Island Mall. Christmas was approaching and to her horror she’d realized that there was a severe lack of gifts underneath her Christmas tree, most notably one for her tag team partner Ashley Williams. She’d wandered the mall for hours, gone into every store she could find, but time and time again she found herself picking up certain articles only to put them back because she wasn’t certain they were actually any good.
Angie knew Ash’s tastes, mind. She knew what she liked: clothes, video games, booze, getting laid… Those sorts of things.
But Ash’s wardrobe alone was probably bigger than Angie’s apartment.
She had every video game possibly ever published for her PS4.
Her wine and whiskey cellar could house a small army of thirsty Russians.
And yeah, getting laid was of course something she couldn’t help Ash with for reason too numerous to list.
Ash came from money and materially speaking she lacked absolutely nothing. But after what happened recently, Angelica wanted to get her something nice, as a gesture that she still truly cared about her mentor-turned-taggie. Ash had gonethrough a bit of a rough patch after finding out that Katie Anderson has been cheating on her with Sam Tolson, sinking into a state of depression that Angelica found really hard to fathom. Not that she was surprised, of course. Sam Tolson cared little for other people, that much was certain, and it was clear as day that she got off on hurting others, no matter how high of a façade she threw up towards the outside world about being a good person and an ‘honorable’ champion. It was all an act that Angelica saw right through, but she was quite upset that Tolson had sunk so low as to seduce an engaged woman, and she was just as mad at Katie for going along with it. She didn’t want to see her best friend hurt. And yet they stabbed her right in the heart.
So yeah, Ash deserved a nice present. And Angelica was growing increasingly frustrated at her lack of success.
She knew what she WANTED to give her, unfortunately they were the two things that were completely out of her reach: the LAW Tag Team Titles. At Night of Glory, they had come up short, once again, as they sought to dethrone the Boardwalk Angels. But Zoey and Farrah had a point to prove, it seemed. The QoW had been their last obstacle to a record-breaking title reign and there was no chance in hell that they were going to miss out on that. Angelica didn’t begrudge the BA their accomplishment, but so many times they had come oh so close, only to let those titles slip though their fingers. They were proving to be darn near unbeatable, which was all the more frustrating since Ash and herself had been ripping through all the other competition Lucas Dupree had thrown their way. Quite simply put, the Boardwalk Angels and the QoW were the two best teams in LAW today. But getting to the top of that mountain, getting that last elusive victory over the champions, was probably going to be harder than beating all the others thrown together combined.
Angelica walked past a few more stores. The mall was busy, with many many people scurrying about, their arms loaded with enormous shopping bags as they prepared for Santa’s arrival. The mall was beautifully decorated, with a huge Christmas tree in the center, loaded with so many decorations you could scarcely see the branches. Snow carpets were thrown around the bottom of the trunk and a small wooden cabin was set up next to it, depicting a Nativity Scene.
Not much farther was a fake Santa sitting on a throne, with a queue of children and parents waiting to deliver him their Christmas wishes. Angelica remembered how, as a child, she wanted to do nothing more than to line up right along with the other kids. Unfortunately her parents reviled Santa Claus. They celebrated the birth of Christ, obviously, as it was probably the single most important holiday of the year for them; but the commercial aspect, the fun bits, Santa, socks, presents, pudding, reindeers, trees,… Those were all forbidden. Yes, Angelica’s parents had managed to make Christmas boring, despite Angelica’s best efforts to enjoy herself. Now, for the first time in her life, she was going to be celebrating Christmas while released from the yoke of her parents, and she wanted it to be as magical as could be. She was half tempted to line up right then and there to take a seat on Santa’s lap just to see what she’d been missing out on all those years, but that was going to introduce her to a level of awkwardness not even she was ready for. So she just stood there, smiling like a goof at the grins on children’s faces. Not like Santa could ever hand her the LAW tag team titles anyway.
Not that she wanted them to be HANDED to her either. No, she was going to work for them, harder than they had before. She wondered how LAW management regarded them now that they had come up short in their biggest match to date. Were they well and truly back at the end of the line? Were Ash and herself doomed to crawl their way back into number one contendership again? Or did Lucas Dupree and Megan Helms King realize that the Angels versus the Queens was a match that was going to keep selling out, time and time again, simply because they were destined to fight forever, as nobody else could touch them? Angelica knew that they were destined to become LAW Tag Team Champions one day. And nothing or nobody could ever stop them from achieving that destiny. It all came down to their focus, their will to win and their belief in themselves.
They had to show the higher ups that they weren’t going to go anywhere. For LAW #73 they’d been thrown into a match against the Naughty Sisters. Katalina was Zoey’s wife. And while Angelica shuddered at their weird sexual fetishes, she could scarcely deny their in-ring pedigree. Former tag team champions in their own right, the Naughty Girls were a team to be reckoned with.
Good. Angelica wanted to prove a point alongside Ash, and what better way to do it than by beating former tag champs, one of which was the wife of a champion they sought to topple? To Angelica, Katalina looked like an old, weird lady but she knew that it wasn’t nice of her to think that. It was prejudice, most of all, since they had never really interacted much. Angelica didn’t really know why. Maybe they’d simply flown under their radar (which was weird, considering their quick ascent through the ranks.
Then there was Jessika Hyde… Now HER Angelica knew, and liked. Sure, she was… well, ‘weird’ wasn’t quite powerful enough to express exactly how she felt about her, but she was certainly pretty darn entertaining. While Angelica adored Honey, it was Jessika who was the HitGirls standout cheerleader, coming up with chants that were so awesome it got Angelica pumped up for every game. Unfortunately, on Sunday they were going to be on opposite sides and Angie could only hope she was going to be as fired up as she was for one of her football games.
Still, the Naughty Girls were in the future, right now she still had to find a present for Ashley. That was, after all, her whole purpose for being here. She snapped out of her daydream in which she and Ashley stood victorious over the Naughty Girls, their hands raised in unison and walked on from the queue of Christmas-crazy kids.
Her eyes were drawn to a little cabin that looked like a photo booth. It was in typical red-green Christmas colors, decorated with holly and garlands. Above the curtain that functioned as a ‘door’ was a placard with a couple of simple words. ‘Record Your Christmas Message!’ Intrigued, Angelica walked up and read the description when she was up close.
Record a Christmas for your loved ones
Step inside in front of the camera
Deliver a message from the heart
It will automatically be sent to an e-mail address of your choosing
On December 25th!
Happy Holidays!
“OHMYGOSH PERFECT!”
Angelica squee’d. This was exactly what she could give Ash. Nothing materialistic. Nothing that could be bought with money. No, she could send her taggie a message from the heart. Ashley needed a reminder that there were a lot of people that cared about her. It would be exactly what she needed.
Angie stepped into the booth, inserted a five dollar note and selected a snowy background. She saw herself on the screen, snowflakes dropping behind her, looking all cute and bubbly. The video started to record in

“Heyyyyyy, Ash! It’s me, Angie! As you can see! You should know who I am by now. I am recording this message for you as a Christmas present because there are quite a few things that I want to tell you. I choose this because there isn’t actually I can give you that is wrapped in paper and has a pretty bow around it. All I can give you that I hope you will value and appreciate are my words.
This year has been so utterly totes amazeballz that it’s hard to figure out where to start. But what I do know is that it could’ve been the worst year of my life yet if it hadn’t been for you. But what you did for me is bigger than any kind of Christmas gift. Bigger than any kind of present you find in your sock hanging from the chimney on December 25th. More delightful than the tastiest Christmas pudding, more impactful than the loveliest chestnuts roasting on the cosiest of open fires!
You, Ashley Williams, gave me warmth, friendship and most importantly of all: you gave me a future. You’re often hard on yourself. You can be impulsive and you can make some questionable decisions, but who am I to judge? After all, your decision to take me in, train me and help me reach my potential might be one of the most questionable ones you ever made… and yet it’s because of that, that I am standing here. Tired? Yes. Exhausted? Yes. But… happy! There is no Angelica Vaughn without Ashley Williams, and for that I can’t thank you enough.
I want to be able to give you so much. I want us to be successful as a team, I want us to grow together, becomes champions together, become a dominant force together. By the time you’re watching this, we’ll already have faced the Naughty Girls. And you will know whether we have beaten them or not, but I stand here, promising and guaranteeing that we will have beaten them. You and I may have suffered a couple of setbacks, but that doesn’t matter. Because you and I, together, will rise time and time again, no matter how much we fall. The Naughty Girls are a bump in the road, but that road leads us to our true destination: being LAW Tag Team Champions.
I know you’ve had it rough, and if I haven’t been there for you in your times of direst need I apologize. But with Emma you seem to have a fine girl. And in me, you’ll have a friend who won’t abandon you as long as one of us draws breath!
So here is my Christmas message to you, Ash: love, happiness, lots of holiday cheer, and undying friendships! Because you and I are the QoW… we may bend, but we will never break, and most importantly we will never bend the knee!”
*DINGDINGDING*
Time was up. Angelica smiled. Right on time. Yeah, that would do just fine. She was going to love that. She stepped out of the booth and made her way towards the exit, the Christmas carols from the speakers merrily jingling their way into her ears. Christmas was here. Nothing was going to ruin it. Least of all the Naughty Girls. And a win over them would put her in the exact right mood.
