The Home of Crystal Hilton
2:35 PM PDT
As happens on occasions when they are all home at the same time, Seleana Zdunich sits and watches her fiancée, Crystal Hilton, get competitive in a video game with her teenage daughter, Brittany Williams. The trash talking had started early and continued into the game. It was just an accepted thing that would go on and Seleana always found herself sitting between the two competitors knowing full well that eventually she would be called on to arbitrate some dispute, probably having to do with who had actually won some bet about making dinner that night. It was always funny to hear them bet such a thing since everyone knew the game would go on so long they would just call out for something and what they were really playing for what who would get to decide what was being brought in for dinner.
Also like most time, when the game got rocking between competitors, both Crystal and Brittany eventually become lost in the game and today is no exception. As Seleana watches the two going at it, her tablet dings at her and she heads into the next room so as not to disturb the animated carnage taking place. She tapes a spot on the tablet and beams as the smiling visage of her younger sister, Zenna Zdunich, greets her from what appears to be the inside of a tour bus.
Seleana Zdunich: Hej, Shenzi!!!
Zenna nods back from her seat on the bus as it barrels down the highway.
Zenna Zdunich: Hej, Sarabi!!!
Seleana sets the tablet down with an easel attachment flipped out as a kickstand to allow her to stand it on a table facing her.
Seleana Zdunich: How’s it?
Zenna’s eyes light up, a slight hint of a guitar playing behind her on the bus.
Zenna Zdunich: Last night in Atlanta was awesome even if Kattunge managed to break strings on all our guitars with like three hours before the show. Lis ran her out quick to replace her stocks.
Seleana starts to laugh at the vision of their youngest sister, Katra, frantically looking for a guitar to play after popping a string on however many they had brought with them on this tour.
Seleana Zdunich: How did she manage this?
Zenna glances back and allows her phone’s camera to find the blonde Zdunich sister in question playing a guitar on the other side of the bus next to her girlfriend, Adriana Nitro.
Zenna Zdunich: You know Nala when she gets excited…
Seleana nods as the camera pans back to Zenna.
Seleana Zdunich: I do…
Zenna can’t help but snicker, clearly entertained by the story.
Zenna Zdunich: She got excited, practicing punk type stuff because she heard Kelsey Spencer or Eavan or Roxi Johnson or maybe even Faye might show up soon and Kelsey has a thing for punk. Motorhead does it for the others so she went a little…
Zenna trails off searching for the proper adjective to describe their sister. Seleana nods as she picks that thought up right where Zenna left it.
Seleana Zdunich: Rubbad?
Zenna can’t help but smile, nodding as they hear their sister playing more furiously in the back, clearly oblivious to anything else going on around her there in the bus.
Zenna Zdunich: Ja, rubbad.
Both elder Zdunich Sisters nod, silently agreeing that the usage of the word for “unhinged” in their native Swedish is quite appropriate.
Seleana Zdunich: Where Lis get new on short notice?
Zenna just nods ahead of herself knowingly, turning the phone again to show the aforementioned Alissa Lacroix busily bunching buttons on a tablet of her own and talking animatedly with her sister, Linnéa, as she takes care of whatever business she is apparently attending to.
Zenna Zdunich: Lucky for us, she knew where the all the music stores were and was able to go and load up.
The camera pans back to Zenna and Seleana nods.
Seleana Zdunich: So, Miami next, then?
Zenna nods.
Zenna Zdunich: Then Birmingham. I feel bad for the drivers, it’s gonna be a slog. They deserve every penny we’re paying them for getting us there safely. Where are you tomorrow?
Seleana starts to smile at the mention of her own activities only for the smile to catch itself and start to go back down her throat due to the opponent in question.
Seleana Zdunich: Albuquerque. Bonnie McBody.
Zenna nods, apparently recognizing the name.
Zenna Zdunich: The milk maiden, ja?
Seleana shrugs almost sadly.
Seleana Zdunich: So it says on her biography. I am not sure what she’s really about, she seems to have changed already and this is only her third match here, I think.
Zenna frowns.
Zenna Zdunich: Byta?
Seleana shrugs, nodding slightly, apologetically.
Seleana Zdunich: She came to L.A.W., debuted in a match with two other new arrivals, Sylvanas Valentine and Effie Rodgers, and then Maki...
Zenna’s smile brightens at the mention of their mutual friend, Maki.
Seleana Zdunich: Maki won and then wasn’t on the next show. She was on the last one against another newcomer in Alexis Riot and she won and now she’s…
Seleana trails off as shrieks of triumph explode from the next room. Both she and Zenan shake their heads as Seleana searches for the thought she was just on. Seeing her sister’s concentration broken, Zenna picks it back up for her.
Zenna Zdunich: So now she’s… what?
Getting her train of thought back, she nods as the train starts to pick up steam and pull out of the station again.
Seleana Zdunich: Taking up with Katalina Star?
Zenna frowns in confusion.
Zenna Zdunich: Is that a bad thing?
Seleana ponders this for a second and then shakes her head.
Seleana Zdunich: I would say no because Mama Red’s partner is married to Katalina but it does not seem to have done much for Bonnie’s personality. She spoke to me in such a…
She pauses again and then shakes her head like she really doesn’t want to say the word surging through her mind.
Seleana Zdunich: Vanvördig…
Zenna nods knowingly having experienced this very thing many times herself in the past.
Zenna Zdunich: It’s competition, Sarabi, people are often rude and disrespectful like that. Sometimes it’s just them pumping themselves up, sometimes it’s them putting on a front to cover insecurities and sometimes it’s real animus. Which does this feel like?
Seleana shrugs.
Seleana Zdunich: I don’t really know her…
Zenna nods pointedly.
Zenna Zdunich: Yes, but you’ve seen the difference…
She raises her right hand as if holding up something for Seleana to see.
Zenna Zdunich: Dumheter!
Her right hand goes down and her left goes up in the same manner its mate had just been.
Zenna Zdunich: Verkligen jävla fientlig!
Seleana nods in acknowledgement.
Seleana Zdunich: I suppose I have seen the difference indeed. Rock out tonight, Shenzi!
Zenna nods.
Zenna Zdunich: Knock ‘em dead tomorrow night, Sarabi! Jag älskar dig!
Seleana can’t help but smile.
Seleana Zdunich: Jag älskar dig!
The video call ends and Seleana nods as she stares at the now blank tablet.
Seleana Zdunich: That IS a good question, Shenzi…
Sitting there, she nods to the door as yet more exuberant sounds of video game competition waft in from the next room. She smiles at the sounds of mother and daughter bonding and then gets out her smartphone. As they continue to go, Seleana contemplates her sister’s words. What did she think of Bonnie McBody’s words? What did she think of Bonnie McBody’s attitude? She ponders these questions for another ten minutes and then nods shrugs before nodding to herself. Looking at her smartphone, she fires up the camera and nods to it as it opens upon her sitting on the couch. She closes the book like cover on the tablet and then sits the phone against it so that she can speak hand free.
Seleana Zdunich: Bonnie McBody…
She nods ever so slightly, looking straight into the camera, her hands folded together in front of her as she sits on the couch before the table.
Seleana Zdunich: I honestly do not know what to make of you, Chickie.
She nods again as she separates her hands and holds up her right hand.
Seleana Zdunich: On the one hand, you come off like a conceited, self-centered, arrogant, disrespectful…
She nods, knowing the people watching and listening get the picture. Her right hand lowers as she looks to her left.
Seleana Zdunich: On the other hand...
Her left hand raises up as her right hand been previously.
Seleana Zdunich: You sound like that isn’t really you, that you’re trying to convince yourself the same way Maria Salvatore always sounds like she’s trying to convince everybody that she really is a badass queen of the underworld.
Pausing again, her right hand comes back even with her left and she stares at both of them, looking first at her right and then her left.
Seleana Zdunich: So the question is, which is the truth with you?
She nods to the right.
Seleana Zdunich: Is that really who you are?
She nods to the left.
Seleana Zdunich: Or are you faking it until you make it in order to try and be who you think you should be because either you wish to attract somebody specific’s attention or because that’s who you think your legacy demands you be?
Nodding to her hands, they fold back together as she looks back into the camera.
Seleana Zdunich: I think the answer is that you don’t actually know who you are yet. I think you are searching for an identity because you’ve never truly had one of your own. You were always somebody’s daughter, somebody’s tag along…
She nods as her hands separate again but remain on her knees.
Seleana Zdunich: So you try different things, be it a milkmaiden, a mean girl, a soror, and now…
She shrugs in confusion.
Seleana Zdunich: Some form of a member of Katarina Star’s stable of...?
She trails off, the confusion only seeming to grow with the momentary silence.
Seleana Zdunich: What you do in your off time, that’s up to you and if that makes you happy, may God keep you in your happiness and I’m glad you found it, none of that matters when you get into the ring. Just like whether or not I have been engaged for an overly long time or whether I gave myself my nickname, once the bell rings, nobody cares. You are more than capable, you have natural gifts that anyone would be blessed if they had but if you don’t know what to do with them, it doesn’t matter what costume you put on to make the packaging pretty on the way to the ring. I am the Cat, and if you come to the ring thinking it will simply be handed to you the way you seem to have come off since you got here you will find this cat has the teeth and claws to make you pay for it. I am tired of people disrespecting me because they feel entitled based on things that mean nothing. There are so many claiming to be an heiress, descended from royalty, or simply born better and bestowed a destiny by some form of God, that it is all starting to sound like the same thing. “I’m just better because I was born that way, just give it up. Give me it, it’s mine…”
Standing up, she grabs the phone and makes the camera follow her up.
Seleana Zdunich: Well I am none of those things. I made myself through hard work and effort. I made it through school, took a job halfway around the world and then made my way here and now I’m applying that same thing to wrestling. Has it been smooth sailing?
She shakes her head.
Seleana Zdunich: No, but that doesn’t mean I just admit that everyone else is better and I shouldn’t bother. I pick myself up, I dust myself off and I set to work making myself better. So you and everyone else can just keep talking about things that no one cares about because when we get in the ring, Bonnie, I will show you that my marital status doesn’t mean a damn thing when I’m kicking your ass all over the place. Whether you mean disrespect or not, I am going to show you why you should not have come at me like that.
Seleana sets the phone down and looks at her hands again.
Seleana Zdunich: Which is it?
She shrugs and shakes her head derisively.
Seleana Zdunich: Nobody cares.
