Starring Trisha VanReardon
Featuring LAW Marquee Champion Nyako Shinsuzuki
CTN Studios
December 2014
The scene opened on the set of “The Hot Seat” as Trisha VanReardon walked out, dressed immaculately in a tight fitting business suit skirt combination. Her long bronzed legs were capped off by a pair of outrageously high and ridiculously expensive heels. The only flaw to her otherwise impeccable appearance was the black eye that was still apparent from her run in with Oni on the show’s debut just before Night of Glory.
She smiled as the show started. “Good evening everyone and welcome to the second edition of ‘The Hot Seat!’ I am your host, Trisha VanReardon.” She ran her hands long the back of the imposing black chair, for which the show was named. “Tonight my guest will be a woman that has a great deal in common with my very first guest…in fact, the two are related. It is for that reason that I have personally requested additional security be present, as I do not want a repeat of the situation that took place last time, when all semblance of professionalism and decorum were thrown out the door.”
Trisha moved to her own seat. “My guest tonight captured the LAW Marquee Championship at Night of Glory…the same title she is now set to defend in less than two weeks against the former champion, Gabby Camacho. In recent weeks my guest has shown herself to be willing to do anything to achieve victory inside the ring, sometimes bending, if not completely breaking the rules to achieve victory. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Nyako Shinsuzuki.”
Nyako looks around the set tentatively, knowing what she got herself into and instantly regretting it. Her 'discussion' with Syn about agreeing to come on to the show played in her mind as Syn's words of how much of a mistake it was to do this. She was setting herself up to either look like a fool or a hypocrite or even both. Looking at the set, Nyako know how true the words were.
Nyako looked over at the devious smiling face of Trisha VanReardon and had to hold back a snarl for the women although a look of disdain on her face was harder to conceal. Nyako took her seat in the Hot Seat waiting for the assault to commence. She wasn’t going to try to be be cordial about the situation because she knew VanReardon was just waiting to sink her teeth into Nyako’s life in and out of the ring.
“Let’s get this witch trial started VanReardon. The sooner we get through this farce, the sooner I can try to repair what ever damage you do to my reputation.”

Trisha seemed taken aback by Nyako’s assertion. She placed her hand on her chest, appearing to be wounded. “My goodness! I am hurt that you would think that I’d do anything to damage your reputation!” After a long pause, she shook her head and gave a smirk, “Trust me…you and your sister to a fine job at that all on your own.”
She sat forward, her blue eyes sparkling as she engaged Nyako. “Since you are so concerned about reputations…why don’t we start there? I strikes me strange that you are so concerned with the way that other’s perceive you when, in recent weeks, you have gone out of your way to engage in the most underhanded tactics to ensure victories. The most notable being the ones with your sister, Oni. In every single win…you are the one hitting people from behind and out-right cheating…validating everything that Evie Taylor has said about you. Yet now, here you sit…complaining that I am going to some how damage you?” She shook her head, “You and your sister have both proven yourselves to be nothing more than a gang of bullies and thugs, pretending to be honorable.”
She smirked, giving a shrug of her shoulders. “By hook and by crook…you have stolen the Marquee Championship from one of the greatest champions in LAW. We have all seen it…it’s not a secret. Quite frankly, I find the way you carry yourself to be offensive! Why do you continue to lie and deny what you are? A hypocrite…a self-centered and egotistical bitch who talks about being respectful, when they probably don’t even know the meaning of the word!”
Nyako took a deep breath, determined not to let Trisha get the best of her. She wanted to smack the smug look on her face but knew it would not be a good move for her or the point she was trying to prove.
She looked at VanReardon cooly, trying to show she wasn't getting rattled. "What happened in the tag match between Comacho, Taylor, Oni, and I was uncalled for and unjustified. No matter what feelings I had going into the match it was wrong of me to take it out on my opponents. There is no justification for it at all, I won't even fall back on the fact that like my sister said, they were the ones to jump us out of the blue at match start. If I want to be seen as a person who practices what they preach thin I need to be better than what I was during that match. If I could go back and redo things, I most definitely would have."
Nyako leveled a look at Trisha. "Make no mistake though, I would have still tried my best to save my sister from the pin; just as I'm sure if Taylor was in the same boat she would have done something to ensure Gabriella would not get pinned. Would it have turned the tide of the match like it did, I'll take the high road and say no. She would have just made sure Gabby was taken care of. It's the same thing i should have done instead of what I did." Nyako sat back in the chair happy with her response but knew Trisha was not going to back down either.

Trisha couldn’t help but to shake her head. “That’s going to be your answer? You bashed a woman in the head with her own title belt…after she did nothing to you but allow you the chance to face her for it?” Trisha chuckled and rolled her eyes. “I doubt that the fans of LAW are stupid enough to buy that load of bull, but…whatever!”
Trisha laced her fingers as she assessed Nyako’s demeanor. “I’d like to ask you about your sister. When you first came to LAW…it wasn’t as a wrestler, but after you were signed on by CTN…you were more than ready to step into the ring. However, when your sister showed up, you were none to trilled to see her.” She narrowed her eyes, “Of course…today you two are both singing each others praises…thick as thieves one might say, but that’s not what interests us. Tell us why you were avoiding Oni…why you didn’t welcome her with open arms when she first arrived at LAW…and then tell us what you think changed?” She chuckled, “I mean…we all know little snippets from her past and how rotten she is…but she hasn’t changed. We saw that when she attacked me. Is it that you are just more like her now?”
Nyako saw what she was doing but tried hard not to take her bait. “You provoked her if I’m not mistaken Ms. VanReardon. You pushed her too far. Am I condoning or justifying Oni’s action’s? No and she regrets doing what she did. Yet you want to sit there and claim she’s the same person she once was. How true can that be if Sidney Grey and Summer St. Clair are still standing on two legs under their own power after not one but two brutal attacks on her by them. The old Oni would have cut them down the first time they laid hands on her but she proved to be the bigger person and didn't retaliate either time. I admire her for that and that is how I know she’s changed. She doesn’t look for the smallest slight against her and try to make a mountain out of it. She has learned to tame her demons. I see it’s a hard process for her as it is for me. But she’s doing it everytime she wakes up in the morning. What Taylor said about us, what Miyoko said about us would have been met with blind rage from Oni in the past, but instead she has tried to extend an olive branch in both reguards and has even reminded me to not jump so hot.”
Nyako sat back in the seat again and snorted. “But of course you do not see it that way. You want to believe it’s a giant fraud she and I are putting on. So it doesn’t matter what I say you’re going to believe what you want. It’s like what I told Taylor and no I’m not trying to minimize it. I can see you think I am but I feel horrible about it and if those in LAW want to strip the win from us and give it to Taylor and Comacho then so be it. Still you both allow that incident to overshadow everything else we’ve done in the LAW to prove we aren’t these monsters you want to paint us as. I would run them off but I know you would just claim they are part of our elaborate scheme.”
Nyako could feel herself getting worked up but she couldn’t help it. As much as Syn’s advice played in her mind, VanReardon was getting to her. She took another deep breath to try to calm down as she readied for the next arrow in VanReardon quiver.

“Wow! You and your sister…what a pair you are!” She smirked incredulously, “One almost has to wonder if you are both think that the public at large is stupid enough to believe what you say?” When Nyako started to respond, Trisha waived her off. “Sorry…that was a rhetorical question.”
She turned the conversation, slightly. “Your little sister…” she paused, “…likes having anonymous sex in parking lots, as the world will soon get to see. How long will it be before we all get to see the same from you?” Before she could answer, Trisha again held up her hand, stopping her from answering. “I’m sorry to stop you…but I think I misspoke…we wouldn’t get to see the same from you, since you’re actually into women.” Trisha smiled sweetly, even as she reveled in the fury she saw in Nyako’s eyes.
“This is a valid question, since you are in an all woman’s league. Some women may have a problem knowing that when you are putting your hands all over them…your thoughts may be…less than pure.” She smiled, “There are women here that are concerned about these things…Alex Yin for example. How do you separate the two when you are in the ring…or is this all just a fetish for you?”
Trisha would have felt bad about throwing Alex under the bus, but the look on Nyako’s face made up for it in spades. She was on the verge of a melt down and Trisha was enjoying ever minute of it.
Nyako gritted her teeth as she started to answer. “Let me start off my answer by saying my sexual orientation never played a role of why I joined or decided to wrestle for LAW. It is small minded individuals like you who like to read into things that are non issues and take personal things and blow them up for a sound-bite. I am not ashamed in the fact I prefer to be with a woman over a man but I also do not troll the LAW locker room for tail either. I am here as a competitor and that is it. I want to prove I’m the best by facing some of the best. I’m not looking to date this person or that person. I find it offensive that you try to make that accusation.”
Nyako took a breath before continuing as she felt she was getting worked up again. VanReardon had a way of pinpointing something and yanking at it to stir up the reaction she wanted. Nyako was trying her hardest not to give her it though.
“I also find it funny that you want to accuse Oni and I for being underhanded among other things despite our best efforts to prove otherwise. Yet you want to hide behind the fact you are telling ‘news’ by smearing my sister by holding this video of her indiscretion like the sword of Damocles over her; threatening to expose her for a deviant, just as you are trying to do to me for the things we do in private. You will probably try to justify it as well people have a right to know but I totally disagree. To think you are just and underhanded, evil, sadistic and twisted as you want to paint us as plus also a bigot to boot. You make it sound wrong for me to like women or for my sister to have sex while being taped without her consent. People like you are what is wrong with society today. You pretend to be so high and mighty and you are just as dirty if not dirtier than the rest of us you pretend to be better than.”
Nyako felt she was on a roll as she couldn’t hold her anger back much longer as her tone and voice began to get deeper and more menacing. She leaned in closer to Trisha. “You want to know who I have a problem with though. Anyone who has a problem with me wrestling here because I’m a lesbian, or anyone who has a problem with Oni because she was caught off guard in a moment of passion that like I said, she was unaware of. You want to claim we are the problem in LAW. No it’s people like you who pass judgment before knowing the whole story or just too dense to want to see things as they really are instead of what they want to believe. I’ve said it before and I will state it again: I respect most of the people in LAW. If they have issues with Oni or I because of what we do in private or who we do it with then you don’t have my respect. You are letting your bias cloud your common sense and that has no place in the ring. I don’t want to associate with people who are afraid to face me because they think I may touch them inappropriately. I don’t want to deal with people who look back on matches with me and wonder if I was trying to cop a feel. They, like you are being bigots and I will not tolerate it. It’s just as bad as people who accuse me and my sister of being something we are not. Basically anyone who shares your point of view Ms. VanReardon can go F---“
Nyako caught herself before she let the curse slip out. She shook her head trying to regain her composure and snickered realizing she had let Trisha get to her. She knew she should just quit the interview before she needled anymore but felt she could gut it out. She did have one more thing to add to the last question though.
“Excuse me. I almost went too far there and as much as I’m sure you’d like for that to happen, I'm not going there. I do have one thing to add before we move on to your next loaded question. Don’t think it escaped my notice that you all but mentioned you betrayed Alex Yin’s confidence. To me that shows what kind of character you have as not just a journalist but as a human being. You will do anything to tear down anyone just to get the story and make yourself seem superior no matter who it hurts. I’m not sure how Ms. Yin knew about my lifestyle.” Although Nyako could hazard a good guess seeing as the young woman had a photoshoot with Maleek not to long ago. “But the fact of the matter is you threw her under the bus just to get at me. I’m proud of who I am and not afraid to let people know but I also saw no reason to broadcast it either. Like I said it is no one’s business just like what happened with Oni is no one’s business. But you made sure to bring it out for not only us but someone who has no ties to us without her consent. Bravo Ms. VanReardon. You’ve outdone yourself.”
She said it dripping with all types of sarcasm and disdain dripping from the statement. She knew it mattered to Trisha in no way because she proved to be the type of person whop only cared for herself no matter what she claimed. Still she wanted those watching to see what she was doing by trying to assassinate people's reputations for ratings and ‘good TV’.

Trisha clapped sarcastically, but inside she had to admit she was impressed by the woman’s moxie. She had expected her to be embarrassed or lose her cool, but she had done neither…at least as far as Trisha could see. “Well now…it looks like you just gave me a good tongue lashing!” Trisha winked at Nyako, “I guess you’re pretty good at that, huh?”
Trisha eyed Nyako, making a tent with her fingers. “You know…I have to wonder…this whole lesbian bad-ass thing…I could have sworn that I have seen it before…I wonder…” She pretended to ponder her own question. She smiled sadistically, leaning forward, “Tell me this Nyako…does it feel weird for you being a complete and total knock off of Eva Rodriguez? I mean…you are completely stealing everything about her! You have the brash and smarmy attitude…her love of vaginas…” she laughed, “…you even stole her manager!” She sat back, “Its almost like you are the same person…well…except the fact that Eva would have beaten Evie Taylor to win the Queen of the Ring.” She grinned broadly, “How does it feel to try so hard and fail at being a pale imitation of the original CTN sponsored bad ass?”
The question was like a slap to the face of Nyako. As much as she tried to pretend she was not the same person as Eva Rodriguez a woman she saw as a rival despite never facing her it still stung when when pointed out their similarities. Nyako had t take a moment to gather her thoughts for a response. Nyako quickly thought about making light of the situation.
“Well to be honest CTN has a history of dealing with strong willed, bad-ass women who preferred other women. Look at Ashley Riot, Deanna Blackthorne, Caprice DeLioncourte to name a few. So honestly Eva doesn’t have the market corner on tough ass Lesbians. Now as for rough beginning through child hood we are somewhat similar but even then at least she had a family there for her most of her life, while I lost mine at an early age. But even still we both grew strong from the backgrounds we had. I’m not going to pretend I like the woman because in my opinion she is over-rated, but I also won’t discount the things she has done for this industry and CTN. She was not original herself but she took the model and improved on it. I hope to do more of the same.”
Nyako felt satisfied with er answer as she felt she did a good job in defusing something before it started, she was even able to take a dig at Eva which brought a small smile to her face. There was one more point she felt she needed to address too though.
“On the manager front, Syn brought me into CTN as a bodyguard for her and also hr clients too; even the very woman you mentioned. Eva Rodriguez. So tell me who is a bigger bad-ass: me or her? I haven’t nor needed protection while the legend herself has.”

Trisha had to admit it, Nyako had managed to side step that question in expert fashion. She acted like the question didn’t get to her…but she was sure that it had struck a cord. That being said, she wasn’t done…she had one more question and she planned on making this a good one.
“I have to admit it Nyako…you are good…you are damn good.” Trisha grinned, “You are a damn good liar!” She shook her head, “I have to wonder though…is this compulsion to lie genetic…or is it some form of mental illness that just runs in your family.” Her blue eyes watched Nyako warily, she knew the woman was a hothead…apparently far more prone to violence than her sister in recent months. Still…without risk, there could be no great reward.
“Your little sister…” she paused, “…you know the one I am talking about, the one who likes having anonymous sex in parking lots, has some very deep seeded issues for which she needs psychiatric help. She has obvious impulse control issues and we know that she is a compulsive liar. She is a woman in desperate need of guidance…guidance and protection that a big sister should be providing…but obviously isn’t. I wonder…are these also traits that run in the family?” A long slow smile touched the woman’s lips. “You know…like Oni has issues…did you know if her twin…” she paused, “…you remember him don’t you, your little brother? Did he have the same issues as well…or did you just not care because you only care about yourself?”
When Nyako seemed to flinch at the mention of her brother, Trisha knew that the woman had been thrown for a loop. The mention of Oni’s twin was sure to get a rise out of the new Marquee Champion…a rise that would spell a massive beating for the CTN investigative reporter. The tension in the studio was so thick that it could have been cut with a knife…and this pleased Trisha to no end…but she was no dummy.
Trisha looked back over her shoulder and a large mountainous black woman walked out and stood just off camera, watching Nyako carefully for any sign that she might snap like her sister did.
Trisha turned back to Nyako and it was apparent from the look on her face that she didn’t have any fear in her heart…but she did have murder on her mind. Trisha swallowed hard as she watched Nyako carefully, as visions of a second black eye crossed her mind. She took a deep breath, doing her best not to give the appearance of backing down.
Nyako had put up with a lot during the interview with Trisha most bordering on slander and nastiness but this was crossing the line even for Trisha’s standard. She had hit plenty of sore spots with Nyako but this one was just too much. She wanted to cause immense physical pain to Trisha with the same intensity she had just cause for her. To bring up her family and also her brother was just low.
The gears turned in Nyako’s head as she tried to figure out if she had enough time to make Trisha swallow her own teeth before her Amazon of a bodyguard came to her rescue. She measure Afikka and felt if she put her own two cent in she could take her to after dealing with VanReardon. It did seem to be what Trisha expected and even goaded her into doing.
At first Trisha seemed smug after asking the question to only have her protector come out of the dark to flank her but Trisha noticed the intense hatred and fury in Nyako's face and eyes that she seemed to feel even Afrikka wasn’t enough to protct her.
Nyako shook her head slowly and thought better of falling into Trisha’s trap. It did make her feel a small bit of satisfaction to see Trisha close to wetting herself, especially doing something as wrongful as bringing up Nyako’s family history. Questioning the mental state of it and also the fact she had failed to protect her siblings, ending in one’s death.
Nyako rose from her seat slowly with both Trisha’s fearful eyes and Afikka’s steely glare on her waiting for Nyako to make a move. Nyako looked at both women and responded in a low tone as she locked eyes on Trisha. “This interview is over. I’m done; I’m not playing your little game anymore. Your main purpose is to prove by any means necessary that I and my sister on nothing but savage wolves in sheep’s clothing. I’m not giving you the satisfaction of proving you right even for a moment.” Nyako glanced at Afrikka who still stood on guard but then turned her attention back to Trisha. “Make no mistake, it is taking every ounce in my body to not launch myself at you; bodyguard be damned, and snapping your pathetic scrawny neck like a twig. I have a match I need to be training for and I have given you more time than you are worth to come on your ‘inquisition for truth’. I should be worrying about Gabby Comacho than about how you can come at me and open old and new wounds. Make no mistake VanReardon. This is not me backing down because I’m scared or proving I'm not a monster because both things are the furthest from the truth. You’ve seen me in the ring and have seen how brutal I can be. Intentional or not intentional, and you’ve also seen I’m not afraid of anyone. But you, you are not worth the effort.”
Nyako shot a glare at Afrikka, showing the woman she wasn’t intimidated and also if she wanted to test her she was willing to go. She turned away and started to walk off the set before stopping to say one last thing to Trisha who could be seen taking a big gulp, showing relief that Nyako didn’t attack her.
“Best of luck with your show VanReardon, because I’m sure you’ll get a lot more reactions like Oni's than mine with the way you are going, and you might need a whole Army of Amazon’s to save you instead of one.”
Trisha watched as Nyako left the set and Trisha signaled for the camera guy to cut the feed. Fade to Black.
