“I took them somewhere safe. I felt it was the best course of action since it seemed you were not looking out for the best interest of your sisters.” Syn said as she approached Oni through the open door of the empty apartment.
“I told my family I thought it was best if they provided her and Song safe haven for the foreseeable future. I’ll be joining them shortly. I’m just here out of courtesy for Nyako.” Her arms were crossed on her chest as she stood there before Oni ind a standoff position, as if to dare the woman to do something to her.
I raised my head off of Nyako’s empty bed and glanced over my shoulder at Syn. I could tell by the woman’s body language that she thought she would be prepared if I took exception to her actions and her words…in that, she was sadly mistaken. I got to my feet, my eyes on hers. “Syn…you and I have never had a problem before…I respected the fact that you looked out for my sister, but let’s be clear here…don’t you DARE to speak to me in that condescending tone!” I walked right up to her, putting my face right in hers. “You think I won’t throw your ass out this fucking window?!”
I pushed past her, ignoring any physical actions she might think she could take against me. I welcomed it as I walked to the open door, then spun back around. “I understand why they left…hell…a part of me is relieved! However, what went on between us is our business…FAMILY BUSINESS! You’re involvement wasn’t needed or fucking appreciated Syn!”
I gave her a dismissive laugh that was devoid of any real humor. “You have the nerve to come here and tell me that this is a courtesy on my sister’s behalf?! Running away has never been something that my sister did…and calling it anything other than that is a goddamn lie! If she can’t tell me that she is leaving or where she is going to my face…I’d rather not hear a word out of your mouth!” I held the door open for her to leave. “We are done here…so you should leave before I decide you shouldn’t!”

“I’m not scared of you one bit. Yes I know what your capable of but make no mistake, just because I look like I’m all Style and no substance doesn’t make it true. I may not be in the family business but I grew up in it and haven’t forgotten anything I learned.” Syn said standing tall against Oni. She wasn’t going to let this woman intimidate her.
“Let’s make another thing clear bitch.” Syn said. “I’ve been protecting your sister for the past few years. Making sure she was protected at all times. You think I just found out what your brother had been up to? I’ve known from the very beginning and have had an eye on you the whole time. I was damn sure not going to let that bastard of a brother of yours or you do one thing to harm Nyako.”
“Yes I knew he wasn’t dead from the start. You think he can take my families territory and not be noticed? You are sadly mistaken. I could have had you taken out like that…” She said snapping her fingers in Oni’s face, raising the ire of the woman but not caring. “But as I said I try not to roll like that after what I had done to Eva. I let Nyako handle you the first time around and was glad she cut ties with you.”
Syn took a step back and sneered at Oni. “This time things caught me off guard. If it wasn’t for the fact that Ny legitimately felt you had turned over a new leaf Boris would have ended you at just a mere word from me.”

Frankly, I didn’t hear a word that came out of her mouth after the nonsense about not only being ‘all style and substance.’ The fact of the matter here was very simple, Syn could have walked in and said what she had to say the first time when I had generously allowed her to walk out. HELL! I even held the door for her! However…being the shitty absentee mother that she was, she was ready to play at being rough and tumble now that my sister was nowhere to be seen.
Before she could say another word, I was across the room driving my elbow right into her face. Yeah…it wasn’t smart…I knew she had ‘friends’ and ‘protection’ just like she knew all the shit she ‘claimed’ she knew, but in the end…I didn’t give a fuck! I grabbed Syn off the floor and drug her to the window, hell-bent on throwing her out of it, just like I said I would.
I kicked the glass out, shattering it as I yanked her up, ready to pitch her out. “YOU FUCKING CUNT!! YOU DON’T SPEAK TO ME…YOU DON’T FUCKING THREATEN ME!!”
Did she have a knife? Did she have a gun? Did she have back up? I didn’t know and I didn’t care. My conscious had fled me the day that Nyako ran off…it no longer mattered to me what she had up her sleeve. People had believed that the extent of my viciousness was hitting Fujiko Mine with her own belt and walking around with her bloodstains all over it…but that was nothing. I had a LOT more viciousness left inside of me! I was going to pour out every fucking drop of that venom into Syn…her cronies…and anyone else who was stupid enough to think that when I said something, it was only talk!
“HEY!! WHAT THE FUCK KYMIKU?!!”
I turned as the familiar sounding voice of Detective Dillion called out to me. In my rage, I hadn’t heard the door burst open or him come running inside. He stood there staring at me in shock with one hand tucked inside his jacket, no doubt with his hand on his gun. I smiled at him. “I didn’t think that Minority Report shit was real…”
He looked at me, staring blankly. “Huh?”
I sighed, rolling my eyes. “The movie where the cops always know about the murder before it even happens.”
He shook his head, “I don’t watch movies…and you should let that woman go, okay?”
I shoved Syn away from me, sending her slumping against the wall. I didn’t look at her to see if she was hurt, nor did I care. I was done listening to her shit…she could go tell that crap to someone else for I cared. She had let me know the most important things that I needed to know. The Russians were ready for war…which I had hopefully just taken a step towards starting and my sister didn’t even care enough about me to write me a goddamn note. SO FUCK HER! FUCK ALL OF THEM! If the war was coming and people were going to die…I was going to be the catalyst. Ny wouldn’t have to worry about her little nothing of a sister anymore…she wouldn’t have to bother with sicko brother either. Everyone would be dead and gone soon enough, but I was facing it on my feet…not running away.
I leaned against the wall, cocking my head to the side. “You speak Russian?”
“No…why?”
I shrugged my shoulder, “I have a sinking suspicion that we are going to have to learn it…soon.” I smiled, but as per my usual these days, it was a hollow gesture.
Syn pushed herself off the floor as Boris came rushing in a few minutes after Dillon ran inside.
<”FOR FUCK SAKE BORIS1 I COULD HAVE BEEN SPLATTERED ON THE PAVEMENT BEFORE YOU LUMBERING AS DID ANYTHIGNTO STOP HER!”> She said to him in what seemed to Dillon and Oni as harsh reprimand.
Boris stood behind the detective with a semi auto in hand taking in the scene and tried to hind the gun before Dillon noticed but was too slow.
“What the hell is going on here!” Dillon asked taking in the whole scene once again.
Syn tried to regain her composure as she tried to straighten her outfit and slide the stilletoo she had in her hand back in her sleeve much more easily from detection than Boris’ attempt.
“It is nothing Detective. Ms. Shinsuzuki and I were just having a difference of opinion and things just got a bit heated.”
Dillon looked to Syn then Oni and then at Boris. “Then why is your henchman carrying that piece with him?”
“Protection. This is New York detective. You need something to protect yourself.”
Syn leveled a gaze at Oni as she made her way out of the clutches of the Asian and toward the door.
“A little piece of knowledge for you my dear.” Syn mentioned to Oni with her back turned toward her but far enough to make sure Oni couldn’t do anything again as she stood between Dillon and Boris. “You might want to ask your brother about that whole tape fiasco last year. I know you don’t want to listen to anything I have to say because your too stubborn, but listen to me on that at least.”
Syn stopped by Detective Dillon and handed him an envelope she pulled out from her pocket. “Please give this to Oni. I’m not sure she’s willing to take anything from me. You see what giving her advice did.” She said looking back over her shoulder at the broken window with Detective Dillon. “It’s from her sister, the one she thinks doesn’t care about her but still loves her despite everything for some reason.”
With that Syn turned back to the door and nodded to Boris. He moved out of the way for her to walk past and he followed behind her leaving Dillon and Oni in the apartment alone.

Detective Dillion watched Syn leave, then turned his attention to me, finally starting to relax. “Well…it seems like I got here just in time.”
I arched my brow as I walked to the broken window and looked down at Syn and her people as they got into their car a few stories down and drove away. I sighed, “You got here a few moment too soon if you ask me…she would have made the prettiest little splatter down there on the sidewalk.”
He walked over, still watching me. “You do remember I’m a cop, right?”
I turned to him, “So that really is just a gun in your pocket. Too bad, I thought you were just happy to see me.” I winked at him as I pursed my lips in a pouty kiss. I walked into Nyako’s kitchen…which I guess wasn’t really her kitchen anymore. “Do you care for a cup of coffee?” I looked at him, “I’d feed you…but I don’t think she has any donuts. That’s what cops eat in this country, right?”
Dillion shook his head. “You’re funny…a lot funnier than the first time I saw you.”
I shrugged as I turned on the hot water. “Well…I was being charged with murder then. It’s funny how that just saps the funny right out of you!” I pulled out two cups and started making the coffee. “Why are you here Detective?”
He sat down on the stool. “I’m here to see your sister.” He looked around, “But it looks like I missed her.” He remembered the note that Syn handed him, and he gave it to me. “Oh! Your friend asked me to give you this.”
I took the letter from him and looked at it, clearly my sister’s hand writing…maybe the last that I would ever hear of her. I stared at it for a long while, until I heard the kettle whistling. I pulled it off the gas flame and then I moved to put the letter in the fire.
“HEY! YOU AINT GOING TO READ IT?!” Dillion yelled as he got to his feet.
I paused, with the note inches from the fire. “Why should I? She’s gone…and she doesn’t give two fucks about me. This letter…this isn’t going to change any of that!” I tossed the letter onto the lit flame and started pouring the coffee.
Dillion ran over and snatched the letter off the stove, blowing out the flames to keep it from burning completely. “If you don’t read it…you’ll regret it!”
“Sugar?” I asked, not paying attention to his statement.
Dillion stared, holding the charred letter out to me. “Are you going to read it or not?”
I held out the coffee cup to him. “Are you going to drink this or not?”
He answered quickly, “I’ll drink the coffee if you read the letter.”
I smiled at him, then threw the cup into the sink, shattering it. “Your loss…she always brought the good stuff.” I guzzled down my own cup and tossed the cup aside, just like the first one. I walked past him, “Good night Detective Dillion.”
He turned, “We aren’t done talking here.”
I turned to him, grabbing my crotch. “Sorry Detective, I can’t talk right now…I’m having female problems…I know you’ll understand.”
He ran his hands over her face, but didn’t bother to follow me as I left. I knew that I should have read the letter from my sister, but I was too angry at her right now…I was too angry at the world. If I stayed with him any longer, I would have said or done something stupid that I’d regret later…so I didn’t bother. I needed to pack my bags and get to Virginia for LAW 33. Maybe I would be able to burn off some of my anger and aggression before I saw my brother and told him that his sister had disappeared again.
