Following Validation, Kenzi Grey winced as the trainer examined her knee. Keira had focused a devastating series of vicious attacks on her right knee and after the adrenaline had worn off, she was barely able to put any pressure on it. Actually…her entire body hurt, but it was damn near impossible for her to tell him everywhere she was in pain.
The Trainer finished his examination, “Well…I don’t think you have any permanent damage in there…nothing to keep you out of the ring, but you really need to take it easy and rest. If you don’t need to walk…don’t do it, okay?”
Before Kenzi could respond, her mother, who was waiting by the door in her wheelchair cut in.
“Yes! We’ve got it! You can go now…”
The Trainer looked at Sidney and shrugged with a roll of his eyes as he gathered his bag and headed for the door. He paused and looked back at Kenzi, “Remember…take it easy for a week or two!” He turned and started to walk out of the room.
Before he could leave, Sidney grabbed his arm and stopped him. “Wait…before you go…I wanted to ask you, are you single?”
The man blushed a bit, “Ma’am…I’m flattered…but I think I might be a little too young for you!”
Sidney smirked, “Not for me…” she smiled, gesturing towards Kenzi. “…my daughter! She’s newly single as well…and quite eligible!”
“MOM!” Kenzi yelled as she leaned back and covered her face, “Oh…my…GOD!!”
The Trainer looked at Kenzi and smiled, “It’s okay! My mother always tries to set me up with pretty girls too.” He turns back to Sidney, “Sorry Ma’am…but I’m gay.”
Sidney pushed the man away from her, “GOD! No one is immune to whatever is going on inside this place!” She waves the man away, “Go on! Fly your ass away from her fairy!”
Kenzi sat up with a look of anger on her face. “MOM! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?!! STOP IT!!”
Sidney raised her hands, then shrugged, “Sorry!” She watched as the trainer walked off, then shook her head. “It’s the cute ones that you have to watch out for!”
Kenzi was hurt and irritated. All she wanted to do was leave this place, but something was bothering her…something that she needed to know the answer to before it drove her mad. “Mom…why did you tell everyone that you only saw Hannah in the car when you got hit. Why didn’t you tell the truth…why didn’t you tell them that you saw m…”
Sidney raises her hands to stop Kenzi from saying another word. “I didn’t lie…I saw Hannah driving the car and that is all that matters…”
Kenzi frowned, “It was an accident…just a stupid accident is all.”
Sidney wheeled herself over to Kenzi. “Is it an accident that Hannah Paul is in jail right now? She did it…and she confessed…so now we can move on with our lives. We can get down to business…you and I.”
Kenzi looked away. All she could think about was seeing the look on Alex’s face after she realized that Hannah was not getting out of jail. Kenzi’s heart had been shattered in a million pieces after Alex had dumped her…and now those pieces were being shattered themselves. “It’s not right Mom…Hannah shouldn’t be there…or she shouldn’t be there alone! I should b…”
Again, Sidney cut her off. “NO! Hannah should be in jail…if not for the so-called accident, then for the mere fact that as I understand it, she’s surrounded by women…which is just what she wants anyway!”
Kenzi threw up her hands in frustration and lowered herself gingerly off the examination table. “I’m done with this…I’M DONE WITH YOU! I’m leaving…” Kenzi’s leg buckled under her, and she screamed as she had to hold on to the railing to keep from falling to the floor. “FUCK!!”
Sidney wheeled herself over to Kenzi and took her daughter’s hand. “Kenzi…I don’t want you doing anything rash or stupid, okay?! Tonight…you showed me your true potential…and now, I’m going to help you tap into it!” Kenzi tried to pull away, but Sidney held on tight, not letting her go, “REMEMBER KENZI! YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING FROM BEHIND BARS!”
Kenzi shook her head, “It isn’t right Mom…did you see the look on Alex’s face? DID YOU SEE IT?!!”
Sidney snorted, “I saw it…and I loved it! You should be loving it as well! Did you forget what she said to you? Did you forget what she did to you? Did you forget her running off with Ashley Marie Chase and Sam Tolson?” She made a sour face, “She used you and threw you away! Just like everyone else here in LAW…none of them give a damn about you! Success is your best revenge…and you got a taste of that tonight! Don’t throw that away because of some little lesbian predator who just wanted to use you for her own sick pleasure and then toss you aside!”
Kenzie continued to shake her head, “No…Alex wouldn’t do that…she loves me.”
Sidney shook her daughter hard, “WAKE THE FUCK UP! Only your mother cares about you! I’m the only one that you can really trust around here. I proved that here tonight! I could have sent you to jail…but I love you…no matter what you’ve done!” She pulled her daughter close so she could look her in the eye, “Everyone who you thought were your friends, they all turned their backs on you…they didn’t care about you at all when Jenny Tuck and Keira Fisher were trying to send you to jail!” Sidney stared at her daughter, seeing that she was starting to listen to her. She had been holding this one little nugget in reserve, but now was the time to pull it out. You might be holding on to some idea where you sacrifice yourself to get Hannah out of jail for your little deviant ex-girlfriend…but think about this; on Saturday night, Alex Yin came to me and she begged me…she threatened me…she wanted me to send you to jail so that Hannah Paul could go free! She was willing to sacrifice you…because she doesn’t love you…no one does…just your mother.” She gave Kenzi’s hand a squeeze, “You remember that Kenzi…remember that…”
As Sidney let Kenzi’s hand go, even as she stood there on unsteady feet. Sidney gestured and Bobbi walked over and tucked her massive arm under Kenzi, holding her up.
“I got yah mate…just lean on me, okay?” Bobbi said.
Sidney backed away, “Tonight…you took a major step towards becoming great. A lot of people did everything they could to stop you…but they failed. You showed me what you were capable of…and now I am going to help you realize it!” She looked at Bobbi and nodded, “Make sure she gets back to the room after she gets clean up…okay?” Sidney nodded and Dana and Dinah came and rolled her out of the room.
Kenzi didn’t want to believe what her mother had said, but it had the ring of truth. The match she had been forced into by the bias General Managers, the hate she routinely received on Twitter, and then…the fact that Alex had come to her mother…willing to send her to jail. Kenzi balled up her fists, as her mind turned and anger boiled inside her. After the match…a part of her wanted to truly apologize to Keira for what she had put her through…but after seeing the lengths that she was willing to go to destroy her…why should she make any succession at all?
LAW had done everything it could to turn her into the villain…so maybe it was time for her to do what her mother wanted…maybe it was time for her to embrace the hate…
