No one had seen or heard from Kenzi Grey since she had been publically shamed and dumped by Jamilyn Cornett. This had not been the first time, Alex Yin had that honor. Just as she had been confused and lost after Alex had so maliciously kicked her to the curb, this one hurt even more. It wasn’t because of the public magnitude…but for the fact that she truly loved Jamilyn, both inside and out. It wasn’t a slight on Alex, because they had both loved each other differently, but with Jamilyn, things had felt different. She had managed to calm the tidal waves of emotions that always seemed to be smashing and crashing all around her. Now that it was over, Kenzi felt adrift and empty…no longer caring where she ended up…if she ended up anywhere at all.
She shivered and coughed violently in her bed, her chest aching from the pneumonia that had worked its way inside her after spending the night outside in the elements…waiting for any word that Jamilyn was going to talk to her family and demand that she be let in to see her. The joke was on her, because just as Nicky Silver had told her, if Jamilyn really wanted to see her, she would have told her family that it was her choice long ago. Funny that fact had never dawned on her, even after she had snuck into the hospital room in disguise just to see her. It had seemed a grand gesture at the time, but now it just seemed pathetic and desperate.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Kenzi sat up, startled by the sound that came from right outside her window. She looked through the darkened pane as saw a familiar face staring at her that both filled her with appreciation and a deepening sense of dread. Kenzi sat back in her bed, staring at the woman as she beckoned for her to come to the window and open it. Kenzi waved for her to go away, but the woman knocked again, this time with more urgency.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Kenzi threw off the covers and ambled to the window, opening it as she glared at Christina Hall with tears in her eyes. “I TOLD YOU NOT TO COME HERE!”
