FOLLOWING LAW #11
Chaifetz Arena, St. Louis, MO
27 July 2014
As I sat in the trainer’s office being evaluated for the vicious beating I had taken at the hands of Sidney Grey and Summer St. Clair, I kept my eyes focused on those of my sister. I could see that she was in an absolute rage over everything that had happened tonight…but it was only her concern for me that kept her from flying completely off the handle…
…aren’t you just a lucky little Asian ducky…
I grimaced when he touched my side. He lifted my shirt and exposed the extent of my injuries. My ribs were beaten black and blue. The trainer looked at me and stated what I already knew…
“A lot of these injuries are a few days old. Where you seen when it happened?”
I shook my head as I kept my eyes glued to those of my older sister. I could tell by the look of bewilderment on Nyako’s face when she saw the damage for the first time that she intended to have a serious talk with me regarding my extracurricular activities. No more strolls down dark alleys for me…
…don’t be a wet blanket, maybe she’ll join in and add to the fun…delicious thought, huh…
She put her hand to her mouth and for a moment she seemed torn as to whether she wanted to choke me, admit me, or have me committed. To be honest, none seemed appealing. Besides, I had bigger fish to fry, and I needed to be alive and free in order to take care of that business. Sidney Grey and her new friend had crossed the line…there was no way in hell that I was going to let this go!
…that’s my girl…when do we get to hurt someone else for a change…
The trainer shook his head, “Well…you’ve got some serious damage done to those ribs. I’m inclined to recommend that you sit out for a show or two to let them heal.”
I finally broke eye contact with Nyako and pinned the man with my gaze. “I’m fine…you can clear me for action. I can take a little pain...it's nothing new for me.”
He sighed, shaking his head. “Look…I can see that you deal remarkably well with pain, but pain tolerance doesn’t mean that you’re not injured. I have to inform the company of the degree of injuries you’ve suffered. If I let you go out there like that…and God forbid something happens…I’ll lose my job.” He put his hand on my shoulder, “I’m sorry…I seriously am.”
…you’re not sorry…not yet, but if you make that call…sorry won’t begin to describe what you’ll be…
I bit my tongue as I watched the trainer get up and walk out of the room. I balled up my fist and slammed it into the table as hard as I could. The pain shot through me like a rocket and I nearly felt my teeth crack as I bore down against it…
…it was exquisite, to say the least…
As the pain rose, my anger abated. It was only temporary…but I would need to be clearheaded when I spoke to my sister. She knew me better than anyone, so I needed to be on my game if I was going to escape her wrath for my stupid actions.
Nyako walked in and sat down beside me. She wanted to talk about everything that had happened…but I could tell that she was unsure of where to begin. Instead, I spoke first, “Have you heard anything about Hilton…how she’s doing?”
