A camcorder flickers on and we find ourselves in absolute darkness. A rustling is heard before a white torch starts shining into camera and we see bedsheets overhead. Holding the torch and looking right into the camera is Alex Yin.
Alex: So...the big match is nearly upon us. Me and Sidney Grey, a contrast in personalities of there ever was one. I guess it's fair to say that we both have different feelings on how people should be treated. I happen to think that being kind and good-natured are very important qualities to have in this world. If you do good, you feel good. Simple but true. You, Sidney, seem to think that being obnoxious just to get attention is the right way to go about things. Well, I have to admit, you do know how to get publicity...but the backlash that comes with it isn't my style.
Alex lies the torch down in front of her, illuminating her face.
Alex: Crazy thing is, we have things in common. For one thing, we have a common ally in Song, who I'd like a to take a moment to talk to. Song, I don't want you to worry. If you choose to support your boss at Validation, it changes nothing between us. I know you and I know the sweet and loving person that you are. Now, back to Sid. The other thing we have in common is a flair for the theatrical. We're entertainers. You tend to get boozed-up to bring on a show, which can make you...interesting. I don't drink.
Alex lifts a can of soda next to her to add to her point.
Alex: I just happen to be rather unusual. That's why I chose this way to do my promo for our match. Not because I thought it would be weird. No. I did it because I wanted to put some distance between us. I wanted to strip things back, so I could show how in many ways I'm not like you. I also wanted to put the fanciful, whimsical and eccentric side of myself aside for the time being and actually be as sincere as I can be. You won't crush me, Sid. Even if you manage to win this one, you won't defeat my spirit. All I have to lose at the moment is the shell of something that used to be alive. It's just an object now. What you have to lose is...really, credibility. For all your talk, if you lose, you're gonna have to eat those words.
Alex scooches forwards, staring into the camera.
Alex: You've pursued humiliating me for the past few months and done some pretty horrid things and for what? You weren't popular before and you're even less popular now. Your cronies in the Pink Ladies have turned their backs on you...in a way, the match is pointless because you've already lost so much stuff leading into this, what would your hypothetical victory matter in the grander scheme? That's the thing. At the end of the day, we're just gonna be in the ring against each other. I've been training hard, I've taken Chewie to a friend's house for his protection and I know what I have to do. It's game time, Sid. No more Miss Nice Gir-
Alex stops mid word, thinks for a second, and then continues.
Alex: Actually, this match is for all of the "nice girls". This will be our chance to show that being kind and idealistic can help make the world better so here I am, nice girl and proud. See you in the ring.
Alex shuts off her torch and we're left in darkness.
