Following LAW 30, all I wanted to do was to get out of town. I didn’t need to stick around and risk running into my sisters. No showers, no interviews…nothing at all but to slip into a waiting car and get out of Green Bay as quickly as possible. As I walked through the halls, hooded jacket covering my face, I passed the Trainer’s Office and I saw SoLo being looked at for injuries she had suffered in trying to stop Kenzi Grey from signing a contract with LAW.
I paused for a moment, torn by the idea of seeing how she was doing and knowing that if I was seen showing that I cared, my cover would be blown and I would be exposing my sisters to the horrors I had been forced to endure. Though my heart ached to see her, I forced myself to turn and walk away. Her physical injuries would heal in time…at least, that is what I told myself as I forced my legs to carry me away from the Trainer’s Room and towards the exit.
As I reached the door, I saw Senji standing there assessing me though narrowed eyes. Not wanting to engage him in the arena, I tried to walk past him, but he grabbed my arm in a strong grip as he yanked me back in front of him. “Leaving so soon? Surely you have some business to attend to before you leave for the night?”
The business he referred to most assuredly referred to my sisters. He had agreed not to seek them out, but he was bending the rules by coming to the arenas after my matches in the hopes that they would come to him. I pulled out of his grip, still running on the emotional charge of my attack on Fujiko Mine. As soon as I did it, I knew that I had made a mistake.
He grabbed me around my throat, shoving me against the wall. “Why are you still trying to defy me Oni?! Why are you making me hurt you?!”
He would punish me again, but if that was the cost that I had to pay to keep him away from my sisters, so be it. I didn’t struggle against him, but from the corner of my eye I caught sight of Alex Yin baring witness to our exchange. My heart sank at the thought of what might have been going through her mind and I prayed that she would stick to her ideals and avoid having a confrontation.
Senji noticed my sudden change and he let me go, turning to see the young girl watching us. “Ms. Yin…” he paused in the middle of his sentence, unsure of what to say.
I turned my attention to Senji, shoving him hard in the chest. “You play too much!” I turned and stared at Alex, then rolled my eyes dismissively…doing what I could to move past what she had seen. “Lets go…I don’t want to be here anymore.”
Senji was reluctant to follow, but he did, giving Alex a final wayward glance before leaving the building with me. This was a complication I did not need, and fortunately, it was one that Senji did not want. I didn’t know how much Alex saw or what she would tell the others, but I hoped that it would be very little.
