Etsuko: Do you fear death?
Etsuko's voice comes in with the scene where the Joshi is seated along the ring apron holding onto a red porcelain mask. She slowly turns it in the light, letting the shimmer out for the camera to pick up, but ultimately doesn't let the front of it face away from her.
Etsuko: I do not mean to sound so cartoony, Miss. Maria, but it is an apt question. Is the ending to things among your fears? The cold, unending black zoid of the abyss. Do you allow a religion to tell you that there is something more in the end? Do you clutch to some belief that this is only the beginning? Well, what if I could tell you that you could be immortal?
Etsuko's eyes lift to the camera assuming she's perked up some form of curiosity out of her opponent.
Etsuko: Not in a literal sense, but through your actions. Stories of your belief, your miracles, the very foundation of who you were will be passed along as though you were a saint. That is what can be earned from this match, Miss. Maria, and the beginning of your immortality can be a story unto itself.
Resting the mask down alongside her, Etsuko braces herself up with her arms.
Etsuko: For I hold no desire in “owning” you, Miss. Maria, I will not even consider you a gift to the Red Lady. This match will simply end with the opening of your eyes. The opening of your heart. The opening of your mind. You will realize that there is better potential within you. Yes, every action, every word, every part of your being will be made into our Goddess' image, but it is what you do to lay the path for Her coming that will be remembered. As a follower, She will speak highly of you. You will live on beyond death.
Sounds like a fairly sweet deal to pass up. The living beyond death part, that is. Not the rest about the cult.
Etsuko: There are so many faceless individuals, people who come and go without anyone remembering their names. Do not be among them, Miss. Maria. So when it comes time for the match, demonstrate to me your skill. Fight for the honor of the Red Lady, and when it is time you will submit the match and kneel. Kneel, and accept the mask that I present to you to wear. A showing of your budding allegiance, of your desire to rise above the rest, of your immortality.
The joshi smiles as she rests her fingertips along the mask. However, the gentle touch soon turns to claws out as her smile leaves from her face giving something a little more serious in its wake.
Etsuko: Or...resist. Seek glory in mediocrity and battle back against this gift. Look at it as so many others have in the past. As slavery.
Etsuko pretty much spits out the word calling the notion of the very idea a mockery.
Etsuko: But that would be squandering your talent. Three and one, is that your record, Miss. Maria? Three and two will be your new one following Rising Stars but those two will remain. So long as you do the smart thing, the obvious thing, and submit. It may sound like I am repeating myself, but you do not know the amount of times I have offered this gift to other individuals only to find that they have all declined. Can you name one of them, Miss. Maria? Neither can I.
She admits with a shrug.
Etsuko: Now, I do not know how this match came about but I was still intending on making you this offer once more. So accept it. Or be forced into it. Believe me, it would be much more comfortable with the latter.

fades in red.
