Scene One-Don’t you love Daddy anymore?
Off Camera
Washington D.C
“Boys!...Boys can you come down here please?” Alicia stood at the base of the long winding staircase. Her hands on her hips as she wears a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. Rory and Ryan opened their bedroom door and laughed as they made their way down to their mother. Alicia smiled wide as they stopped in front of her. The house a little quieter with Michael away. “What is it momma?” Rory tilted his head as his younger brother Ryan stood next to him. Ryan always let his older sibling take charge.
“I have something to tell you and something to discuss, come with me.” Alicia led them through the beautiful old house in D.C she moved into. It was Michaels, passed down through his family for generations, Alicia had been helping him restore it, originally he was afraid of Alicia helping with renovations till he realised it was more a restoration, keeping it all natural. As Alicia walked into the kitchen she had made the boys lunch, her mother’s fried chicken recipe. They moved around and got on the stools as Ali leaned forward. “So, on New Years eve...Michael asked me a question…”
Ryan blinked and picked up the chicken eating a piece as Rory seemed more curious, his head tilting as he looked down and noticed the ring on his mother’s hand. “What kind of question momma?” She smiled and leaned in close. “A very important one. See Michael asked me to marry him…” There was a silence as the words came, Rory seemed to understand and he gave his mother a small nod, he looked at Ryan, his eyes almost begging his younger brother to stay quiet. Ryan though slowly put the piece of chicken on the plate and swallowed hard, his little face looking upset.
“What’s wrong honey?” Alicia couldn’t help herself, the motherly instincts took over, Ryan seemed so sad, she needed to know why, Ryan looked at Rory with big eyes almost pleading with him to say it instead. Rory just shook his head before Ryan blurted it out. “Don’t you love Daddy anymore?” Alicia’s heart dropped as her jaw seemed to stutter without words coming out, Rory looked away with a sigh, trying to hold back frustration from his younger brother. Rory had been almost three when Alicia left, Ryan was still a baby. He never understood and was too young to see or remember. Alicia had always feared Rory knew, that he has seen too much as a child.
She sighed and thought deep before her answer, Ryan had looked up to his father, he was closer to Ronnie than Rory was. “Well, your father and I...we haven’t.” “Mom and Dad shouldn’t be together Ryan and they won’t, I told you...Dad is not a good guy.” Alicia was shocked by Rorys outburst, she swallowed hard as Ryan seemed to go back into his shell, Rory grabbed his piece of chicken ripping pieces of it off. Alicia turned just to Ryan and leaned in. “Your father and I have one thing in common, we love you very much, you and your brother. But don’t you like Michael?” The question rolled off her tongue as she felt fear rise up in her heart. What if Ryan didn’t accept Michael? She loved him, Rory had bonded with him and Michael adored them, taking care of them as if they were his own.
He helped them with homework, he took them to their football games, he helped them cook for Alicia’s birthday, he was there for them. Ryan looked up, his blue eyes so much like Alicia’s own, he seemed to hold back tears. “Is it….is it ok if I like Michael more than Daddy?” The question hit her again, not expecting it. She looked over at Rory who gave her a small knowing smile, he was so smart for an 8 year old. “You can’t help your feelings for anyone honey. I love Michael, he loves me, he loves both of you. Your dad loves you two as well in his own way. This doesn’t change anything. This doesn’t stop you from being with your dad or me…”
“Promise?” Ryans voice cracked and he held out his pinky, Alicia grinned and took his in hers with a chuckle. “Pinky promises never break right?” He gave her a fast nod and smiled finishing his chicken in record time before sliding off the stool, Rory followed at a slower pace before turning around. “Hey mom?” Alicia made a small acceptance noise and a nod. “I know why you can’t be with him….I’m glad you’re happy…..I like Michael….you deserve it….” He gave her a faint smile and backed away as his baby brother called for him, Alicia felt pride and happiness she had never expected, a smile coming across her face as she picked up her tea sipping it slowly, her eyes catching her ring….
Scene Two-Roots Bloody Roots…
On Camera
Washington D.C
Present Day.
“Did that live up to all your expectations?...”
Alicia looks up slowly, sitting on the bottom two steps of the front porch of her home suburban DC. It was a lovely spring day, the sun was out. People seemed to go about their lives almost comically ignoring Alicia and the camera filming her. The wind blew softly past as she tilted her head with a grin. Her ruby red lips twisting upward.
“All that waiting, all that hype. The most dominant force and champion in LAW history getting into the ring with the brightest shining star in the company. At LAW 79 you all saw something very special. You saw the start of a changing of the guard here. See Gabby has been the top dog for a while now, picking apart and beating the best of the best and smiling about it. She dominated Sam Tolson, she has dominated everyone. Everyone, except me…..”
“For almost 20 minutes the LAW champion and I beat the living hell out of each other. And you know, it amazes me just how much pain we put each other through. See she and I had never faced before. It was like with Sam Tolson, she and I had been in the ring together, she and I had destroyed one another. And I came back from the “draw” with Sam to bury her a few weeks ago. And now I stand here in a similar position. I drew with a dominant champion. I can’t say I got the win, I can’t say I was the better woman. And sure, part of that really really annoys me. I wanted to be able to stand here and either say that I had beaten the best of the best and was coming for that title or that I lost and I needed to learn and get better. One or the other...some kind of finality…”
“But, that isn’t what happened. No, last week in Fort Worth Texas Gabby and I destroyed one another to the point where we laid outside the ring and could not answer a ten count. There was no winner, there was no loser and while I had people congratulate me and tell me that my stock in this company went up I still couldn’t enjoy it. Even as people said it made Gabby look bad, with everything she said which, by the way, was contradictory and the opposite of everything I said, because apparently listening isn’t one of her super duper champion super powers….she apparently looked bad because she failed to put down the upstart walking onto HER turf….”
“And that’s the thing, I don’t just come into companies and have a few matches and leave. I’ve done a few guest spots but when I sign a contract I’m in for the long haul. I did it with Honor the first time before it closed, I did it with WWH and Honor the second time. I walk onto companies prepared to bust my ass. So I have to ask, when does LAW go from Camacho, Tolson or Hiltons turf….to mine?...”
Alicia laughs to herself, her bright white teeth shining as she lets out the small sound, she reaches up pulling herself up wearing a long sleeved red “Strong style southern belle” t shirt and blue jeans as she moves her blond hair from her face.
“I’ve been here a few months, I’ve done everything asked of me from beat those who started the same time as me including my friend Maki, I’ve beaten champions, ones that were current and former, I lost to Crystal Hilton, gave her respect then went on to beat someone many see as my arch nemesis then put on a clinic with the face of LAW. Week in week out, show after show match after match I get in that ring and I prove myself to be the best in the world. It’s not a catchphrase to put on a shirt, it’s not an overstatement it’s something I have lived and proved.”
“Sure I’ve done it in other companies, much like Sam and others, but I want to prove it here to and I feel like in the time I’ve been here I have already gone well on my way to proving that. Something I’m about to continue with at LAW 80 when I step into the ring with Roxy Cotton to face the Boardwalk Angels….”
Alicia forces a smile and breathes deep.
“First off let me say what an amazing...honor it is teaming with Roxy Cotton. Miss Cotton is a member of the Cool Kids. Wait, is that still even a thing?. I mean Crowthorne is barely around, Lacklan is still wheeling her ass around, Kenzi took her ball and went home. I guess that means all that’s left is Angie and you Rox. But really as it stands now you should be the only one anyone cares about. You are a two time Chaos champion and you like me have beaten Sam Tolson….”
“Then again I’m starting to think that’s not really a big accomplishment anymore. I mean you did it, I did it, Camacho did it. At this point it’s like whipping a dead horse, and there’s no point in doing that, you can’t hear it scream….”
“But still, a two time Chaos champion, star of the LFL and someone who is somehow even more notorious than me. See Rox you and I share a few things, alot of people know who we are and dislike us. Sure I have some fans and our opponents this week respect me but all in all alot of the other female “stars” in this business hate my guts. And it’s for a very simple reason. I’m that damn good. Now you are also talented, I’m not going to pretend you’re not, I’m not going to discount what you can do in that ring because truth be told you are an athlete and a decent professional wrestler. You’re also a heat magnet and are perhaps even more arrogant than me...and that scares me a little….”
“Although, if you and I can get along we can not only win this match but show just how good we both are.”
“That is, if you can get over yourself. You actually took to social media and told me to fall in line and follow you.; Like i’m some kind of inept child. Because you have a title and we’re against the tag team champions like I have been nothing this whole time. In the few months I have been here I have faced the best, beaten the best and put on main event worthy matches every single time. And now here we both are, teaming in the main event….I’ll have your back Roxy, cause I hate losing….”
Her mouth turns and twists from a frustrated grin to an arrogant smirk, her eyes move down as she chuckles to herself. Alicia’s fingers lightly move up to her hair lightly moving it up and over her ear as she looks up and her bright blue eyes sparkle.
“If I did happen to take an L to the Boardwalk Angels though, well I suppose that wouldn’t be the worst thing on earth would it?. Zoey Madigan-Star and Farrah Cornette. Ladies, if this was another time, another place I might be able to consider you two as friends. You have shown me warmth and respect. You have looked at the person I am and the professional I have been and when I signed to LAW you were two of the first to celebrate my arrival….”
“Unfortunately, that isn’t this time or place. Because where I am in my life, I can see you both as acquaintances and respected opponents.”
“I’m not going to lie, it’s an uphill battle in this match for myself and Rosy. See while she and I are talented, we are not a team. We are not a unit. We don’t have what you two have. See Zoey and Farrah are lifelong friends, a true team forged from years of spending time together, understanding each other. Roxy and I barely tolerate one another's existence. Zoey and Farrah can laugh and smile and enjoy being in the same room...I walk past Roxy and wonder...can I fit her head in the trash can sitting in catering?..”
“This is not the way a real team should think of one another…”
“So straight off you two have that advantage. You’re a real team. You have the belts to prove it but in a world where tag team wrestling is dying you have kept it alive here in LAW. Not just that but you both have the skill set and drive to be champions anyway you choose. I could see Zoey Madigan-Star...Marquee Champion, or Farrah Cornette the Breakout Champion. I could see it happening but you have both talked about being a tag team and that is what matters to you. I respect that, I admire that. And truth is I like you both which is why it’s going to be hard for me to do what I have to do...I have to team with someone I don’t like...to beat two people I do….”
“Thing is, I don’t have to waste my time reminding you what I’ve done or who I am, you both get it. You both understand it. You get what is coming for you at LAW 80. This isn’t a game and this isn’t a case of me talking out of my ass. I’m a competitor, a warrior and when the bell rings, respect, admiration...all that goes out the window...and I will do anything that needs to be done to walk out the winner...along with…” Sigh “Roxy….”
