When I started wrestling in LAW. I never expected to be in the position I’m in. Granted you get those few big mouth Vocal ones namely Salinas, that say I don’t deserve it but I think it’s been proven when she faces better competition she seems to disappear so her opinion amounts to jack and shit.
Still I find myself in the thick of it in the hunt for the Marquee title. The title many see being the premier title in LAW. Everyone and their grandmother wants a piece of it and willing to step on anyone and everyone to get a shot at it. Right now I’m in the driver seat since I am the number 1 contender contrary to what Kate “Who the Hell She Think She Is” Steele wants to believe. After Comacho finishes putting her in her place, at the bottom of the ladder it would be in her best interest to worry about me coming up.
Yes I have my own issues to worry about such as the thorn in my side and personal PITA (Pain In The Ass), Gabriella Salinas. I still owe her for the punch to the jaw she gave me last show after I made sure she didn’t take a short cut against my sister. But that is a problem for the future. Right now my biggest obstacle is Miyoko Reeves.
Remember when I said the Marquee Title had many people vying for it? Count Miyoko as one of them, and I will say one of the few deserving a shot at it. When she came into LAW she had an impressive debut match against the then World Champ, Steele. She fought her to a draw and looked good doing it. In our first go around she gave me more than I could handle partly because I underestimated her but partly because she is that good. I came out of it with a win but it also showed me I need to step up my game if I want to make it in the LAW and I think it did the same for her also. As of late she’s been on a tear and looked damn strong doing it plus also showing a bit more of an aggressive attitude in and out of the ring.
I do not plan though to be the next victim in her current run. I’m not the resident whipping girl Mackenzie Roberts, I’m not going to let her get in my head and get the better of me. I got so many things going on in my world, the last thing I need is for someone to get into my psyche. Plus the things I’ve went through in my life the mind games wouldn’t even compare.
I‘m not going to waste my time reiterating the same old cliché garbage of I’m going to beat you and show you why I’m the number 1 contender. All that is, is just empty words without the actions to back them up. Anyone can run their mouth but very few can back it up in the ring on a consistent basis. That’s my plan going into next week, showing that I’ve gotten that much better since our first meeting and put my skills against hers. I’m all for my Asian sisters to make an impact in LAW even if some rub me the wrong way. But I don’t plan on being their or anyone’s stepping stone.
So many people claim I’m the current flavor of the month in LAW, but those that say it don’t matter to me. I need everyone I step into the ring with to see that I’m the real deal. No more of this I’m a flash in the pan or I’m getting opportunities I don’t deserve. I want to strike fear in each and every one of my opponents, friend foe, or whatever.
I plan on Miyoko doing everything in her power to pull out the win, but just so she knows I plan on doing the same plus more to keep my spot. I’m a marked woman just like the Marquee champ is. I welcome it and every challenge cause each time I prove the haters wrong, the more I silence the critics.
I will close with one cliché line Miyoko. I wish you the best of luck, because you’re going to need it.

Syn’s Office
Syn sat in her chair with her hands templed in front of her smiling red lips. She found it amusing to listen to her client rant and rave about her meeting later on with Maleek Raheem. Of course it struck Syn funny how little if ever she saw Nyako come into her office in a good mood. The only time she knew Nyako to be happy was when she was around her sisters as of late but even then it usually ended with her being in a sour mood whether it had something to do with what she said or did or someone else saying or doing something.
It was a nice change of pace to hear her not complaining about how bad things were going in her life, but something as trivial as a meeting with Raheem. Granted meeting with Maleek was trying ordeal but for the most part Syn felt underneath his rough and thuggish demeanor, he was a pussycat. Of course that was way deep down also too.
Syn raised an eyebrow when Nyako mentioned a Playboy pictorial which caused Syn to try to stifle a snicker. She covered it unsuccessfully as a cough which Nyako shot a glare at her.
“Ahem..” Syn said clearing her throat and trying to avoid the laser beams Nyako was shooting at her. “I honestly do not think he will try to get you to pose for Playboy my dear. Maleek can push the boundaris but he even knows where the line is and doesn’t cross it…much.”
“I don’t trust the man as far as I can throw him. You know that Army Strong DVD set by Comacho is used as spank material. Last thing I want is people ogling me like a piece of meat. I became a wrestler to whoop ass and prove how good I am at it. I didn’t do it to become some kips masturbation material. Damn moogles…”
“Moogles?” Syn looked puzzled.
“Something I heard somewhere, might have been on TV or something.” Nyako said brushing it off as she was still hot about meeting with Maleek.
“You watch TV? I didn’t even think you owned one.” Syn said slightly surprised by the idea of Nyako taking time to watch TV for even a minute since she seemed to be a perpetual gym rat.
“That’s not the point dammit!” Nyako snarled as she got upset over Syn trying to get off the subject. “I want to know what Maleek has planned or this little ‘re-branding’ of my image. Why can’t it be enough for me to step in a ring, beat up whoever is put before me, rinse and repeat? No now I got to sell myself to get the respect I should get for being a good competitor.
Syn smirked. “Welcome to the 21st century my dear. It's a 24/7 job. Everything you do and say is used to improve your brand. Your name and image is a product that needs to be sold and every avenue tht can be done to get it out there will be used to sell it. Honestly dear, you should be on Twitter. Salinas is on there, so is Grey even the newest LAW stars have accounts. You are one a of the few dinosaurs who does not tweet.”
“Oni doesn’t have twitter.”
“No offense my dear but your sister isn’t the best role model for you to be following despite the efforts she has made to change who she once was. I love her aggressive nature but I still think she’s a few cards short of a full deck.”
Nyako’s mouth turned downward and her jaw clenched from the remark by Syn. Syn put her hands up in submission.
“I’m sorry. I should choose my words more carefully.”
“No you should keep it shut when talking about Oni. You don’t know what she’s going through.”
Syn knew all too well what Oni was ‘going through’ thanks to Boris’ surveillance but this was not the time or place to bring it up to Nyako, especially since it didn’t have any ill effect on her current rise in LAW.
“You’re right. I do not know her situation.” She said giving in to Nyako for the time being. “The issue is not about her though; it’s about the image you portray. Everyone knows you are this supposed badass. But that is it. Wouldn’t you like for people to get to know more about you?”
“I honestly don’t give a rat’s ass what people know about me. I’m not trying to make friends or gain support.”
Syn looked at Nyako unconvinced by the remark. “Everyone cares what others think about them whether they want to admit it or not. And I know you feed off of the fans when they get bhind you in a match. I can see it in your eyes when you fight. I see you kick it into another gear when they cheer you on. You get this look like you are in the zone. It drives you in matches and against those that try to punk you like Salinas.”
Syn’s words rand true although Nyako didn’t want to admit it. She wanted to believe just wrestling was all that should matter but she knew this business relied on more than just that. She just wasn’t sure she was cut out for this side of the business. As much as she reviled the career of Eva Rodriguez, she had to admit the woman knew how to play the game. Yes she too had to be drug into it kicking and screaming herself, but she ate it up when the spotlight shown on hr. How would she be in this day and age of it? Would she be ‘trending’ or whatever? Nyako couldn’t bring herself ever being comfortable in the spotlight especially with so many feeling it was unwarranted and she just lucked into it. Sometimes she started to let those comments sink in and started to believe them herself. She wouldn’t admit it to anyone but there were times she did feel that things would crash at any second. Then what would happen to her.
Syn could see the turmoil boiling over inside of Nyako and chose to change the subject to at least get her mind off of the meeting. “You’re match this coming weekend with Miyoko. I must say I’m surprised that Lucas has scheduled you in a return match with her.”
“If the old Oni was around, I’m sure she would say it was their way of trying to keep the Asians down by pitting two of the more successful ones as of late against each other to kill one if not both of their momentum. Why else would he let Steel continue to hound Comacho looking for the Marquee Title when I’m the one with a legit claim to it? Even Miyoko has more of a claim to it than Steele who seems to be losing every week now.” Nyako said, showing a bit relief to get off the image subject.
“Well maybe you should take matters into your own hands to get Comacho to address you or at least recognize you are the biggest threat to her reign as Marquee champion. I’m sure a good showing against Miyoko will make her notice you more but maybe something else needs to be done.”
She knew it was a touchy subject but Syn pushed on. “You know, this is one reason why selling your image…”
Nyako hope out of her seat and pretended to look at her non-existent watch on her wrist. “Look at the time. I need to get to that meeting with Maleek…” She said ending the conversation with her agent..
For a brief moment she thought they got away from that subject but it seemed everything lately kept leading back to it. She welcomed for the upcoming weekend to come since all she would have ot concentrate on is trading blows with Miyoko. Being in the ring was what brought more enjoyment to Nyako than anything else.
Syn took the hint. “Yes, I don’t want to make you late for that. I’m sure we will talk after the meeting sometime this week. I would love to learn what ideas he has for you.” She said with a grin.
She got up and walked to the door to see Nyako out. “Just don’t kill him dear. He may be a pig, a chauvinist, a narcissist, and crude but he is good at his job. Listen before you take action.”
“Not doing a great job at selling me on giving him a change Syn. I think you need to work on your skills of persuasion. They seem to be slipping some.” Nyako said before leaving the office.

Maleek’s Office
Maleek Raheem sat in his office admiring Nyako’s recent CTN cover picture. It had taken a fair amount of convincing to get her to agree to pose, and even then she insisted on downplaying her her beauty in favor for a harder edge. While the cover was still a very good one...this isn’t what he had in mind for her. Everyone in LAW knew that she was a tremendous fighter who didn’t put up with nonsense, but there was another side to her that he wanted to bring out. His little dog and pony show with Priya had gotten her to show that there was more to her than what met the eye.
He put the magazine down and leaned back in his seat as he waited for Nyako to be shown in. He couldn’t help but to smile to himself at the idea that she was coming to see him instead of him chasing her for a change. He knew that she wanted to be anywhere else, but she felt that she had to be here in order to ‘protect’ her image...one that she knew he was doing his best to change.
As she walked in, he gestured towards the seat across from him. “Well, if it aint th’ next LAW Marquee Champion...go ahead and have a seat girl.”
Nyako looked around Maleek’s office, surprised at how professional it looked. She imagined there be pictures of women asses and what not plastered all over the place. He portrayed the rapper persona and lifestyle in her mind so she thought every aspect of his life was the same. She never imagined he actually could be professional when need be.
Despite this fact though she still was reluctant to come see him and see what his grand plan of improving her image was. She really never cared about being marketable before, she just wanted to step in the ring and prove who was best. She wasn’t keen on the whole chess game of the business nowadays. Even Syn was trying to push her to get a twitter account, something Nyako saw no need for. Why would she care about what inane thoughts others had to share. Nothing was that important to have to post it every few minutes. But this was a new age and Nyako was going to be dragged into it kicking and screaming.
She looked at the seat Maleek offered and sat down. A small smirk crossed her face as she relaxed a bit to hear what Maleek had to say. “Well I’m here Raheem. What’s the game plan you have for me.” She said. A touch of contempt could be detected in her tone.
“Come on Homegirl, why you gotta be short wit’ a brotha?” He chuckled, then waved it off. “No...I get it girl...you don’t trust me and you know that you don’t need to do any of this to be successful in the ring.” He shrugged, “You are absolutely right about that. You don’t need me and you don’t need CTN to become Marquee Champion.”
He watched her face and could see that she completely agreed with him. “Now...all that being said, I’m not here to help you win...I’m here to make sure that after you do, you stay on the lips of everyone who watches LAW.” He smiled, “Case in point...The Doc…” he watched as Nyako’s mood soured, but he didn’t laugh, “...hey! She’s a great talent, and though she might hold th’ title, no one even looks at that belt as th’ top title in LAW anymore. Everyone is looking at Gabby Camacho...everyone is looking to th’ title that YOU have th’ only claim to right now. When you get your shot at that belt...you do what you do...but what I want is for you to let me do what I do outside of it, you feelin’ me?”
“And what exactly is this you will be ‘doin’ on the outside? I’m not doing any reality BS, or do a DVD of college frat boy spank material. So what other idea do you have?” She asked cooly with a raised eyebrow.
Raheem couldn’t help but to laugh as Nyako mocked him. He pointed at her, “You know something...you’re cute when you’re being an asshole.” He stood up, walking over and leaning against the desk in front of her. “Look...all you are doin’ is sayin’ ‘no, no, no’ to everythin’ wit’out givin’ a brotha a chance to git’ in there and work it out.”
“Look, I know that this is a sore subject fo’ you, but Sidney Grey has said it time and time again...you are practically a man baby!” Raheem raised his hands as Nyako got to her feet, apparently ready to deck him. “WHOA!!! That ain’t me girl...I know you aint no man...but come on...yo’ image needs a make over!”
He put a bit of distance between them. “You talkin’ shit bout’ Gabby’s DVD, but aint nobody callin’ her a man! Aint nobody callin’ her anythin’ but Th’ Marquee Champion! Frat boys are buyin’ her DVDs and they are buyin’ her posters and she is just gettin’ bigger and bigger!“ Raheem shrugged a bit, “I played a part in all that...but she got that shit in th; ring…” He narrowed his eyes at her, “...you’re a beautiful woman is all...let me show th’; world that side. In th’ ring, kick all th’ ass you want. Plain and simple…”
What Raheem was saying to Nyako made sense but she still wasn’t keen on the idea of having to sell her image just to garner respect and fan support. She had nothing against Comacho other than her holding the title Nyako wanted. Still, as well intentioned as her exercise DVD set was it was a big sell because she was sexualized and in Nyako’s mind that made it less about her talent but more based on how she looked. Nyako didn’t want to be in the same boat.
It did sting Nyako every time someone, mainly Grey made statements that she was mannish or looked like a man. She knew that was Grey getting under her skin and doing something to get into her head but it still sank to the core. But was she willing to ‘doll’ her image up, just so things like that would be said, would she be giving up what she wanted people to see her as just to be more appealing to everyone?
Nyako ran her hand through her hair and let out a sigh. “Fine, I’m willing to listen to your ideas Maleek , but you need to start telling me what they are. All I’m hearing from you is you need to re-image yourself, you need to be more marketable, you need to change your look. You’re not giving me your ideas though.”
She looked at Maleek. “You want me to stop shooting down ideas? Then you tell me which one’s you have for me. If I don’t like them,, I’m walking. I don’t care if my image isn’t as marketable as it possibly could be. I’m keener to gather a following based on what I do in the ring and not what I do outside of it. But if you got a game plan I can get behind that I’m not sacrificing my dignity for it then tell me what it is.”
Raheem walked over to his desk and put his hand on the CTN Magazine and turned it slightly so it was facing her. “I really enjoyed gettin’ you on this cover…” he paused, flipping the pages until he reached the centerfold, “...but this is where I want to see you. Showing the world how much of a real woman you are.”
He could already see Nyako coiling up to shoot down the idea. “What’s wrong wit’ being an asskicker in th’ ring and somethin’ completely different outside of it.” He gave her a knowing wink, “You and I know that there is a HELL of a lot more to you than that...don’t we?”
He shrugged, “That’s just the start of course. We get you out there and let them see you...th’ real you. Tough as nails in th; ring...somethin’ different outside of it...somethin’ real and relatable.”
Nyako narrowed her eyes ready to strike out at Raheem. Her personal persona was just that, personal. She didn’t like the idea of letting it out in the open. She wasn’t embarrassed or ashamed of it, but to have people think about her that way. Yeah it was just a centerfold in a CTN owned magazine but where would it lead to next. Like she just told Maleek she was willing to hear his ideas but would walk out if she didn’t like them. Right now he was walking that fine line , but she was also slightly intrigued too.
She knew he was running his infamous game on her by complementing, flattering her. Blowing smoke up her ass, but it also felt good too. He seemed to know how to push her buttons. He did it by setting her up with Priya, and now was laying it on thick himself.
She relaxed a bit and sat back in the chair turning her look of annoyance to one that was more playful. A slight smirk crossed her lips as she licked them. “I still think you’re a snake oil salesman but I’ll go along with it for now. Let’s see what this magic you think you have can do.”
Raheem stroked his chin as he breathed a sigh of relief. He knew that she was on the fence with this, but he had used her insecurities against her...though he doubted if anyone else saw them. It was true, Nyako didn’t need him or CTN to be a success...but he was going to find a way to make her even more of a success than she ever imagined...all she had to do was let him in. She was going to be the biggest thing that anyone one had ever seen. Before she knew it...she would be headed straight to the top...and CTN would be the one steering the wheel.
